Irvington High Presents Forest Court Operetta Friday Night

The Irvington schools close their spring festival with an operetta The Forest Court directed by Miss Margaret Leonard featuring students from grades one through six. Cast includes Patricia Therrien John Ferguson Jane Aber cromble Enar Fri berg and many others in a large ensemble with Georg Sharp directing the band and Leonard guiding the chorals and orchestral groups in a full concert night.

Irvington Stores To Close At 1 P M Wednesdays

Irvington merchants will close stores at 1 p m every Wednesday afternoon through June July and August. This is the fourth year of the practice and last fall’s attempt to make it year round failed as some merchants refused. The half day has been satisfactory and nearly all merchants will observe it this summer.

Junior Prom At School In Irvington June 17

The Irvington High School junior prom will be held in the school auditorium on Friday evening June 17. Co chairs Jennie Ceretta and assistants Patricia Gallagher and Bernadette Downing lead the planning. The orchestra includes Kim Banchard, Preston Siebert, Louis Bennett and Stanley Chrapowiteky. Woman Hurt Slightly as Three Cars Collide

Three cars collided on Broadway near 690 East Third Street Mount Vernon. Joseph W. Shaw, driving one car, rear ended Hubert Moreley’s southbound vehicle. The other car, operated by May Romeo Demers of St Teresa’s Church North Tarrytown, struck the rear of Moreley’s car. Shaw was treated for injuries to her right hand and left shoulder and left with her husband. no charges were filed.

Irvington village historian Arthur C Lord’s adventurous early years

Arthur Chase Land, Irvington born July 31 1886, grew up on South Cottinet Street and attended Williston Academy and Westminster College. He wandered the Northwest after college, working in Idaho lumber camps and a Washington trust orchard, sleeping on Custer’s battlefield in Montana and meeting Sioux who asked about New York subways.

St Barnabas Parish Festival Set For June 10 11 12

The eighty fifth anniversary of St Barnabas parish will be marked by a three day festival Friday through Sunday June 10 to 12. Pageantry Guild presents three one act plays directed by Georgina Johnston with Mrs Esmond B Gardner in charge of arrangements. A garden fete, midway by Henry B Waterbury, hot dogs ice cream and gifts featured. A parish house dance and buffet supper by the Woman's Auxiliary. Francis Dewitt Thorp of Dobbs Ferry is general chair. Sunday includes morning services and a four o'clock parish reunion song with Rev Os Rice preaching at the eleven o'clock service. Matthiessen Park Opens for Season in Irvington

Matthiessen Park on the Hudson River at Irvington is officially open for the season per Mayor Matthew J. Murtha. A custodian has not yet been named, though a decision is expected at the Village Board meeting Monday. The park, owned by Ralph H. Matthiessen, offers playground equipment including sandboxes elidos and a jungle gym, with a new water main for the wading pool installed last year as part of this year’s improvements.

Veterans to Hold Memorial Field Mass in Westchester

The Westchester County Council Veterans of Foreign Wars hosts an annual memorial field mass for county veterans at Gate of Heaven Cemetery on Brons River Parkway Sunday at 10 30 am. Rev Father Clifford Smith county chaplain presides assisted by Monsignor Aloysius Dinan with major in the New York 27th Division and Monsignor Francis W Walsh will deliver the principal address. After mass VFW ritual, firing squad, taps by county bugler complete the service with seats reserved for Gold Star Mothers and families of deceased veterans.

Kevin O'Neill Struck by Bat at Memorial Park

Kevin O Neill, 50 Main Street, was struck by a baseball bat at Memorial Park on Monday and transported to Dobbs Ferry Hospital with suspected brain concussion and skull fracture. An X ray showed injuries were not serious. The bat was swung by George W SBavenizer Jr who says the boy stood behind him as he swung toward the plate. The boy remained to watch the game after being re damaged.

Admit Children Into Sodality at Immaculate Conception

School children of the Immaculate Conception Church and Children of Mary Sodality led a Sunday procession to the Crowning of the Virgin. Jeanne Cipperly led the ceremony with altar boys Matthew Murtha Jr and a choir conducted by Miss Margaret Owens and Mrs Joseph Reilly. New and existing Sodality members named. Dogs killed by car in Tarrytowne road incident

A Monday accident on Main Street in Tarrytowne killed two dogs named Amatak and Reed. The vehicle was driven by Ors Hunter, 31, as they ran into the front of the car. Police cautioned drivers to watch for animals at the roadside.

Village honors war heroes in Memorial Day ceremony

Irvington villagers gather at the War Memorial for Memorial Day with the high school band playing America. Trustees and Gold Star Mothers place wreaths as clergy, Scouts, and Veterans of Foreign Wars participants take part. An American flag is presented to the park and hoisted amid the band’s playing. Four hundred children take part in park events and over six hundred adults attend as balloons and ice cream are shared.
