A Willow Street family in Dunellen New Jersey reports their son George Strimel was struck by a car on Harriman Road Sunday evening. The youth sustained a head bump and concussion with leg muscle pain, was treated at Dobbs Ferry Hospital, and remained under examination for skull fracture with no fracture found so far. His parents rushed to Irvington, awaiting his return home by week’s end.
William Carradi 50 died Christmas morning after a heart attack at his home at Hudson View Park. Police and a doctor pronounced him dead. funeral services set for Friday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception with burial in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Survived by wife Catherine Prince, two sons, two daughters, a sister Blanche Hogan of Yonkers, Bruno Carradi of Indianapolis, and two grandchildren. born in Italy, formerly with Fisher Body in Tarrytown and a photographer for the Southern New York Racing Association. member of Local 854 UAW-CIO.
Sunnyside Federal Savings and Loan Association of Irvington will credit more than $72,000 to members on December 1 as it closes its books for 1956. The dividend rate is 2 percent per year, with a 1 percent bonus for regular installment savings accounts at maturity. The organization reports rising assets and deposits, with a projected year end asset total near $6.25 million and savings around $5.25 million.
Mrs Rose Boyes of 127 Wilde Street Tarrytown former Tevington resident died at Grasslands Hospital after a short illness. Widow of George F Boyce she lived in Tarrytown most of her married life. Born in Ossining she resided in Irvington until her marriage. Survived by two sons George F Boyce Jr and John J Boyce a daughter Catherine Carmela seven grandchildren all of Tarrytown and sister Emma Baker of Irvington Also noted Ernest Selis II son of Mr and Mrs Ernest T Selig Jr of 252 South Buckhout Street a Cornell University sophomore who received a Scott Paper Company Foundation scholarship at a Philadelphia banquet on December 17.
About five hundred people are expected at the dedication ceremony for Greenburgh Town Hall on Thursday afternoon January 3. Invites go to county and town officials and to six villages. Councilman Edward N. Vetrano will host, Supervisor Edward H. Jonet will give the main talk, and James Hopkins will present a gavel.
Matthew W Turner of Irvington was elected master of Diamond Lodge No 55 F A M at the lodge’s annual meeting in Dobbs Ferry. He will be installed January 4 at the Masonic Temple Ashford Avenue with Edwin Leadbetter senior warden A Lyle Johnson junior warden H Stuart Kamke secretary and W Lindsay treasurer also chosen for terms.
Ardsley Park mystery over Christmas Eve disappearances ends with three youths admitting after investigation by Sgt Rudick and Pa Beck. A man named Douglas Thayer was arrested on charges of holding stolen property but released on own recognizance. Signs valued at 125 dollars were taken as an after party prank and recovered from the youths and their families. A separate lone sign appeared on Hancock Place, its origin unclear.
Funeral services were held at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Yonkers for Joseph F Daly 71 father of Eva L Duly a teacher at Irvington Elementary School He died Saturday after a short illness A retired Consolidated Edison employee of 30 years he is survived by two daughters Louise and Agnes Duffy Doth Yonkers and Eva L Duffy
Village clerk Knute Wistrand reports two days remain to pay 1956 village taxes without penalty. He notes 85,?1.82 balance, expects total collections near $10,000 by January 2, with more receipts after year end as villagers settle balances before May 31 fiscal year end.
Elizabeth Frost aged seventy one was found dead in her Irvington home on Saturday evening by her brother Albert Frost of Yonkers after failed calls. An autopsy suggested natural causes, with services at Edwards Funeral Home and interment in Fernley Cemetery. She long worked as a bookbinder for the Methodist Book Concern and later for the Geter Company, surviving four sisters including Mrs Nelson, Mrs Miller, Mrs James, and Mrs Chadwick.
