Impressive Services for Jos. Clendenin in Irvington

Funeral services were held at Irvington Presbyterian Church for Joseph Clendenin former VP of American Smelting and Refining Company who died at Kirkhills Ardsley Park after a brief illness. Interment was in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery with surviving children Genevieve Clendenin Stanley Bailey and Joseph Clendenin Jr others include David Clendenin.

Irvington PTA Meet Tuesday With Guest Speaker

A Parent Teachers Association meeting will be held Tuesday evening at eight o'clock in the East Irvington School. A guest speaker will attend and the High School band directed by George Sharp will accompany carols. Sharp will also sing several selections.

Two to Appear on Woman's Assault Charge

Richard Harris of Mount Kisco and William Zekus of Elmsford will face Judge James J. Lyden in Irvington police court on Wednesday morning charged with assault by 12 year old Mrs Helen Dalton of Hastings. She says Harris and Zekus offered a ride from Hastings to North Tarrytown, assaulted her in a Cyrus Field Road parking area, and reported the car license to North Tarrytown police. The North Tarrytown police relayed details to Irvington authorities.

Gilmours Entertain Methodist Club

Members and friends of the Methodist Club gathered at the home of Rev and Mrs Lloyd Gilmour for a covered dish supper. Twenty six attendees enjoyed seasonal decorations a tasty meal and a casual Christmas carol sing followed by a club business session planning a dinner to mark the opening of the remodeled social room on Thursday January 19.

Philadelphia pastor Dr Edward P Westphal will preach at Irvington Presbyterian Church on Sunday December 11. He directs adult education and men’s work for the Presbyterian Board of Christian Education and will speak on The Perils of Spiritual Blindness. He has held pastorates in Illinois and Nebraska and joined the Board’s staff after serving as field representative for religious education.

Services for Mrs Mary G McBride

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St Barnabas Church for Mrs Mary Golda McBride of 9 South Ferris Street who died after a long illness at Grasslands Hospital. Rev Otis Rice officiated, burial in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. She was 34, wife of Walter C McBride and mother of two sons, Kenneth J and Walter Robert. She lived in Irvington fifteen years and was born May 29 1904 in Neaver Meadow PA. Survived by husband, sons, her mother Anna Peck three sisters and her PA father. Body lay in repose at 9 South Ferris Street home prior to funeral.

A card party is planned in the lecture room of Irvington Presbyterian Church on Wednesday evening December 14 by the Christian Endeavor Society. Max Eleanor Byrnes leads the party committee and Florence Hehrent handles refreshments. Door prizes will be awarded and a prize at each table.

The Irvington Public Library trustees awarded Miss Emma Knodel a silver bowl at the monthly meeting in recognition of twenty five years of service dating to 1913. The note lauds her role in maintaining the library’s high standards and recalls the library’s early history and supporters.

Scots Admit the Laughs On Them At Presbyterian Bowling Night

The Irvington Presbyterian Church Lawn Bowling Club hosted an informal social and motion picture event in the tech ro room on Tuesday night. Nearly two hundred members and friends attended as bowlers laughed at themselves while recounting Scotish heritage and Bowls on the green. Travel pictures from Scotland and Yonkers anchor steamship tours were shown with Pantol Atellride presenting. Dancing followed with ample refreshments.

Man Held Over Fire Hydrant Damage Case

Joseph Soverino of Ardsley-on-Hudson appeared before Judge James J. Lydon in Irvington police court. His case was adjourned for two weeks after his car struck a fire hydrant at Washington Avenue and Ardsley Avenue in Ardsley Park. Repair costs were reported at seventeen dollars.

Business Men Form Association in Irvington

The Business and Civic Association of Irvington formed at a Pastime Club room meeting led by village business men. Aimed at creating a community shopping center and a homey village atmosphere, the group elected Clyde M. Northrop president and J. L. Van Winkle vice president. Other officers include William A. Pateman treasurer and J. R. Pearce secretary. Attending were numerous local business figures including Charles W. Tighe Alfred A. Kraus George Kraus John Horban and many others.

Sewer Project Cost Placed At 250000 In Irvington

The village board discussed a survey map for an intercepting trunkline sewer in Irvington as part of the sewage disposal system. Principal cost is estimated near 260000, with Works Progress Administration involvement to be determined after plans are finalized. The trunk line would run from Hudson Road to Sunnyside Lane along the river bank near the railroad.

Post Office Plans for Holiday Rush in Irvington

The Irvington Post Office will add four assistants for the holiday period to handle increased mail flow. Postmaster Joseph J. Reilly announced two new clerks will join the office force and two more carriers will join the delivery staff to meet demand.
