Red Cross Extends Roll Call Drive To Top Irvington Quota

Irvington and Ardsley on the Hudson seek to lift a $316 shortfall in the Red Cross annual roll call. Mrs. Ralph T. B. Todd says the drive will continue ten more days to push the Irvington quota over the top. New memberships in the district include numerous local residents as the tally shows $981 in receipts for new members so far.

Visits Irvington After Fifty Years

Miss Allen Sedgwick of England, who lived in Irvington as a child fifty years ago, visited last week at the home of Miss Isabel K Benjamin of Riverview Road. She is accompanied by her sister the late Ann Sedgwick, famed English authoress. They recalled childhood days at the farmhouse once on the Cosmopolitan site later occupied by the Photocolor building, now home to Mrs J Lawrence Gilson.

Boxing Bouts Canceled By State Athletic Commission

Brig Gen John J Phelan chair of the State Athletic Commission notified Irvington police that boxing bouts at Holy Name Hall tomorrow night are not allowed as the club lacked required licenses. He warned amateur shows need Amateur Athletic Union approval and professional events require a corporation with a license. The smoker is canceled, disappointing the committee and many ticket buyers. the club plans a dance instead.

Debutantes Plan Eighth Gavotte at Ardsley Club

Westchester debutantes plan the eighth Gavotte to be held December 28 at Ardsley Country Club. Invitations sent for 300 guests. Executive and general committees listed with many local and nearby residents and patronesses named.

Edward J. Martin, civil engineer for Tarrytown, delayed by snowstorms, begins survey for a village sewage plant project. Thanksgiving Storm Car Crash Near Main Street

In a Thanksgiving storm a car driven by James Mush collided with Petrie's auto on Main Street near Broadway. Hughes then struck a Lighting Company pole causing front end damage. No injuries or charges. Hughes family were en route to dinner at Mr and Mrs William Jones on Grinnell Street.

Dozens of automobiles were tagged with blue warning tickets as Irvington police resumed the anti parking drive. Chief McCall said action may move to court if owners do not remove cars after warnings. Mrs Shrady received a suspended sentence in police court for illegal parking in North Astor Street station plaza.

Town Hall redecorating to start next Monday

WPA will redecorate Town Hall at an estimated cost of 15000 dollars with labor supplied by WPA and village furnishing materials. Work begins in auditorium and includes new stage lights replacing a board in service since 1902, with completion expected early January for a senior play.

Trailer blocks Broadway for six days near Ardstead Park

A freight trailer sat in the middle northbound lane on South Broadway in front of the Ardstead Park residence for six days, obstructing traffic after the rear truck broke down on Thanksgiving night. The trailer, reportedly from a Brooklyn company, was removed last night when the towing truck returned.

Irvington business leaders plan a Friday evening gathering at the Pastime Club to map an association for advancing village business. Thomas M. Hughes of North Tarrytown and P. J. Hastings Mourns James C Magee longtime Greenburgh assessor

James C Magee longtime assessor of the Town of Greenburgh died at his Hastings home on Riverview Place after his illness dating to last July from a stroke. He was seventy one. A Hastings resident for 35 years he served on the town board of assessors and chaired it. Survived by three daughters two sisters and a brother his public service included Hastings Board of Education trustee and president and leadership roles with Hastings Savings and Loan Association and local Catholic community groups. He held posts with National Conduit and Cable Company LaRabida Council Knight of Columbus Yonkers and Fourth Degree Assembly.

Riverview Road Association met Sunday November 27 and stated that a sale of a lot on Riverview Road to colored people could depress real estate values in Irvington and on River Slew Road. The group urged opposed action to block the sale and protect neighborhood value.

Missing James H Hall Prompts Wide Coast Search

James H Hall fifty three superintendent of the Mary Duke Biddle estate on East Sunnyside Lane is missing after leaving for Dlear Hills Country Club on November 9. His car was left in a Dyckman Street garage and keys mailed to Irvington. Mrs Hall posted a $100 reward and private investigators are helping. Local and New York authorities check hospitals and transit hubs along the Atlantic seaboard. Hall was a well known estate superintendent in Irvington and the Tarrytowns area, active with Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce boards.
