Vacation Bible School opens Friday for Irvington and nearby communities. Three Protestant churches host sessions on Friday morning August 20 at 9:00. Ages five and up from Irvington High School center join Preteen Church. younger children gather at Church of St. Bartholomew with Mrs Jacobsen directing. St Paul’s Methodist Church hosts year-olds under Miss Mary Van Wagenen and Philip W. Furst assisted by Irvington Presbyterian Church director. Activities include instruction worship recreation and crafts leading up to Labor Day week.
The Rev John BL atuetinson of Beverly Farms Massachusetts will be guest preacher at First Baptist Church Tarrytown for both morning and evening services next Sunday at 1 00 and 1 30. He is the son of Mr and Mrs John Martinson of Circle Drive Irvington New York and the daughter of Mr and Mrs Hallock of Irvington New York. He was ordained in a May service this year.
Irvington police investigated a complaint from a resident on North Broadway about stones removed from a wall bordering the driveway. The inquiry traced the act to nine goose bags, with a note signed by Sue Foley, 30, and a reminder that no fines may follow tomorrow.
Union Carbide abandons plans to reuse East View land for a factory complex tied to its steel and subsidiary operations. The Irvington Police Association plans a barbecue on Thursday September 1 at 1 30 PM to aid the village children age years old in care of the local welfare department. Mrs Annetta B Oetgen of 1 South Dearman street and Irvington area died at Debs Ferry Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services held at the Riveral Home Ashioe Wests Dainers with burial at Saint Hope Cemetery. She was member of Eastern Star Irving Chapter and Hastings scrolls. Survived by husband George and a son Harry Oetgen, a daughter Blanche Van Riper, three grandchildren, two sisters Mrs Worth Gugel and John Hayes.
Richard Irwin of 135 Main Street, assistant with the Irvington Fire Department, is hospitalized at Dobbs Ferry after a severe cut under his left eye. The injury occurred Monday at the Burnham Corporation plant when a piece of metal broke from grinding, was hurled through a safety guard, striking him. He is under treatment by Dr. Oscar Mink, Hastings eye specialist.
County planning figures place Irvington at about 4,900 residents in 1955, up 1,213 from 3,050 in the 1950 census, a 34.9 percent rise. Westchester totals show county population at roughly 728,000, up 97,000 since 1950, with villages like Ardsley and Briarcliff Manor leading growth.
The Irvington Village Board of Trustees at a special meeting adopted an amendment to the Building Zone Ordinance to restrict multifamily construction in the Residence district. The plan sets a 35 foot height limit, 15 units per building, minimum frontages of 250 feet, and plots of at least four acres. Garages, street parking, yard setbacks, and spacing rules apply. The ordinance becomes effective ten days after first publication.
Weather dampens plans for the Irvington Fire Company bazaar set to open this evening at the former Bion meadow on Crete Drive. Four dozen booths rise in long rows with pennants while a lane swing amusements for children are planned. Refreshments and merchandise will be offered over five days beginning tonight through next week.
