Home on site of famed Ardsley Towers rebuilt

The Ardsley Towers site, once built by Cyrus Fie for his son, is under purchase by William Adsit of Armsey Park. The lot on Broadway and Osceola Avenue was bought from Lorena Company, with Wm B. May Company of New York arranging the deal. Adsit expects to construct a modern residence with river and Ramapo views, on land part of Cyrus Fie’s 1808 Ardsley tract near the former Field home. The property’s history includes Avsey Towers and ties to Amne Barber, Locomobile maker, with the building once a notable country seat.

Briggs II Joins County Trust as Vice President

The Sasite tion Department unveils a redesigned honey wagon after a three day vacation. An added extension lengthens the vehicle by about two and a half feet and boosts capacity by sixty cubic feet. Under Skipper George England the crew now operates a longer unit better balanced with its other dimensions.

Hainfeld Absence Leave Replaces Tevington High Teacher

Alfred G. Hainfeld will be on leave of absence next year. Raymond E. Townsend, supervising principal, received applications for the commercial subject post. McCowley, NYU graduate and International Diesel and Electric Co. veteran, age 38, married with two children, was among finalists.

Presbyterians to Open Bible School

The Irvington Presbyterian Church will conduct a vacation Bible school from August 7 to September 2 for children aged 4 to 12. Beehive and House Burned In Attic Fire

A man on Ardsley Avenue started a beehive fire with a blow torch aimed at driving bees from his home. The flames spread to the attic causing extensive damage before firefighters controlled the blaze. Estimated damage is about $600. bees’ location afterward unknown.

Robert Morse to Move to Utica

Robert Morse plans to relocate to Utica after resigning as secretary at the Tarrytown YMCA effective September 15. He previously served two and a half years in Tarrytown after joining in March 1936. Morse, educated in Ardsley, attended Torrey College and earned an sociology A B, served in the Army with the 30th Division, married a WAC, and later settled in Livingston with daughter Cathlene Anne born this year.

Ninety Boys and Women Learn to Swim in Tarrytown Program

Ninety boys sixty girls and three women and one man total 154 have learned to swim this year in Tarrytown. Class regimens continue during vacation with sessions for boys on Mondays and Wednesdays 9 30 to 1 and for adults by appointment.
