The Board of Education announced a tentative budget reducing the tax rate by 20 cents for the coming year. The rate drops from 6.82 to 6.62 per thousand, with total appropriations $148,945 and $117,945 to be raised by taxation. Teachers are to receive full salaries as part of the plan.
Malcolm M Roy was named Village Counsel with a $1200 retainer by the Board of Trustees on Monday night amid divided opinion. Roy secured support from three trustees, while two members pursued reappointment of Ras chilleing the retainer. Continued on Page Two.
Mrs. Helen Earing Allen Feld nt of Trvlnt dies last Friday. She resided in Stony Point with her husband Allen, a former science teacher at Irving High School. Funeral services were held.
Veterans from James Daley Post organize a Hastings Military Ball to be held next month in the high school gymnasium. The event features a Massing of Colors led by commander M. Whittacker and adjutant Sylvester Cook as part of a broad effort to engage the Hastings Board of Education.

James Sullivan of Storm Street Dobbs Ferry an employee on the Her non T Woodie estate Riverview Road Arth Broadway committed death by own action yesterday afternoon. Police were summoned to the estate by Dr Evan J Smith who had been called to the patrolman Edward Foley who investigated the death by own action found the body 200 feet away from the Woodle AAS car Colt revolver with initials J.7. 7 serial number 749 was lying six inches away from the right hand of the victim. Examining the body Foley declared Sullivan had placed the muzzle of the revolver on the right side of the head close to the ear the bullet coming out above the left ear. Dr Smith who had been of the Church of the Immaculate Conception was called and administer last rites of the Catholic church. Continued on Page Five
The village advances a road project on West Sunnyside Lane with a short section to be paved with blacktop and the east section from Broadway to East Irvington Square to receive 20 foot wide concrete paving. Additional costs arise from proposed piping along the road right of way and a rearrangement of frontage improvements.
A funeral for Joseph F. Morgan was held yesterday at 10 A M in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Surviving are three daughters Mrs. Lates Whiting Mrs. Joseph Martin of this new area and Mrs. Reed of New La Conn, and son James H Morgan of Irvington.
Colonel John Tyssowski of Ardsley Park was reelected president of Ardsley Country Club with J. J. Moore Rehardson of Ardsley Park named secretary and treasurer. The club season includes championship tournaments drawing strong interest. This week Paul I Randall of Sunnyside Lane won a women’s crown by defeating George Gouge of Tarrytown in the final.
The Young Men's Republican Clubs of Westchester announce the Th Annual Spring Dance at Westchester Country Club on April 30 in honor of Charles J. Griffiths. Committee members include Thomas F. Tey, Howard Neck, Melvin, and others. Tickets are $2.00 per person, with matinee options and planning underway to arrange proper accommodations.
The Park Commission will meet tonight to outline a season of improvements at Memorial Park. They consider closing Matthies Sen Teach Park to divert funds to the village site, with new employments including positions for a park superintendant and staff. Her husband receives personal property while sister Florence Guerin of New York City inherits 2000 dollars and jewelry and silverware are divided among her children.
Mr and Mrs Henry Van Devant plan an informal celebration of their golden wedding anniversary with family and friends. The note mentions the couple may have observed their anniversary with a private gathering and looks ahead to continuing festivities.
The father of Vito F. Di Lastro, a trustee of Spiro Park, died suddenly Saturday at home in Brooklyn after a brief illness. Funeral services were held following the death, with the family noting his long connection to the shipping industry and his many descendants.
The Ladies Aid Society will host a community dinner at St. Paul in the shared hall from May 6 to 8. Mrs Margaret Tirokaw and her husband lead the committee coordinating the event.
A longtime Brooklyn resident Mrs. Kennaly died at her home on 8th Street after a brief illness Saturday evening. She was laid to rest Saturday in St. Joseph's Cemetery Yonkers cemetery services followed. Her husband is the sole survivor.
On Wednesday April 29 at 2 00 PM in the downstairs parlors of Irvington Presbyterian Church a Hand Brestol demonstration is planned featuring spring and early summer recipes. An admission charge of twenty cents will be collected and an invitation is extended to all in the community.
The Thursday Club stages the second annual circus for St Faiths House, to be held in Tarrytown on Saturday afternoon and evening May 23rd. Mrs J W Moore Richardson heads the organizing committee and proceeds support St Faiths House. Tickets are on sale now at local outlets.
Seven Westchester gardens will be shown to the public beginning Saturday to benefit the Westchester County Children's Association. Mrs. Max J. Rossbach of White Plains chairs the Garden Committee with Mrs. Pierre Hull of Yonkers as vice chair. The first in the series features the rare rock garden of Mrs Ise Hebe Wilder of Tronxville. Life will be opened Saturday afternoon May 9 at Greystone estate.
Representative Charles D. Millard, newly become grandfather, learns his grandson Charles Millard Snow is the son of Mr and Mrs Charles Snow of Paris France. Mrs Snow is mentioned as Ethel Lee Aulard and husband stationed with the American embassy in Paris.
The sixth annual Diamond Laodze dinner dance will be held tomorrow at Hillside Farm Ardsley Road and Central Avenue in Greenburgh. The event starts at 7 30 p.m. with informal attire tickets are free Arthur C Blackmar of Tastings serves as dinner chairman.
Members of the Thursday Club viewed the Hartford big three ring show to pick acts for a charity circus in Tarrytown. Attendees included Mrs Moore Richardson of Ardsley and other officers and members from Scarsdale Irvington and Ardsley. They weekended at Hartford, attended the circus, and returned Wednesday.
