Irvine LTA blimp hangars linked to Pearl Harbor era landmark
Two massive wooden Lighter-than-Air blimp hangars near Irvine became a landmark after 1941 orders for bases spurred land sales to the Navy. Built in nine months from wood, the hangars rose beside El Toro and Navajo camps, later decommissioned in 1949, then repurposed as a park project begun 2014 with public tours to begin in 2016.
