Chairman J A Ogg issued a call for the Republican county convention to meet in Alton on June 26. Nomination of officials including representative county attorney clerk recorder treasurer sheriff superintendent of schools coroner and surveyor will occur. A supervisor from each of five districts will be chosen after the main convention.
County Petes Alton will celebrate July 8th. Mr and Mrs Sam Lincoln of Alton welcome a new baby boy. The Alten bridge gang works near Granville. Melbourne dog and pony show pits Hawarden June due. The Ireton High School class of 1906 will hold public exercises at the M. E. church. Rev. J A Edwards delivered the baccalaureate sermon at First Presbyterian. Graduates Francis Johnston Elizabeth Brown Zelda Byrne Edna Weis Ethel Burker Nellie Wheeler Ruth Dale present orations on immigration education and civilization with music and ovations as Rev Pryor presides.
A letter from Arthur Dayton, written from Sebastopol May 12, reports San Francisco in terrible condition with 300000 homeless and famine fears. Santa Rosa and Berkeley areas show widespread ruin with dozens dead, and the quake has altered ground with long cracks and land rises, while some islands have risen off Dillona Beach.
Ireton plans two day carnival events with Strube and Alton on the first day for a 40 and 20 purse and Hawarden to meet winners day two for 25 and 65. Amateur northwest teams, Treton girls, two basketball games daily, music by Braton and Mammen bands, parades with floats, and Lytle Glee Club evening entertainment.
Stewart disposed of her restaurant and china store to General Rahe who took possession and plans to establish the enterprise while greeting former customers. Mr Rabe traded his property for the deal. Mrs Stewart ran the business for six years and achieved success. Mr Rabe has prior experience and aims to keep the business profitable.
