Lutheran St John Mission Festival Sunday Services

The Lutheran St John church east of town holds its annual mission festival next Sunday with two sermons at 10:59 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Preachers are Revs H Beer of Hinton Iowa and W Nehwaldi of Hawarden. All members are invited.

Northern Bridge Fire Sparks Passenger Scare

A bridge on the Great Burlington line between Struble and Maurice near eight Sunday morning nearly burned, risking a St Paul passenger wreck. Farmer Mike Lang spotted smoke, alerted Maurice, enabling the operator to halt the train. Work trains from Sioux City mopped up and the bridge was temporarily repaired. The fire’s cause remains unknown.

Treton Prepares Ambitious Mid-Summer Celebration

Treton committees plan a grand July 4th and 5th event with high priced attractions. Reed's 4th Regiment Band of Sioux City is a potential headliner, and Geo. C. Scott of Sioux City will give the keynote. Afternoon ball games feature two prominent teams as the lineup expands daily.

Heavy Stock Shipments From Lreton To Chicago

A train of fifteen cars left Lreton for Chicago last Saturday evening. Shipments included A C Collins, Chas Bertram, Terwilliger Dwight, E H Eilis, Henry Ouken, Clint Knowlton, Pred Kluter, John Ricklafe, and E H Heinrich. Accompanying figures list sixteen cars on Monday evening with Frank Nooo and others transporting multiple cars.

Burk's Colossal Uncle Tom's Company performs at Treton on Wednesday May 30 under their waterproof electric lighted canvass theatre. A big street parade routes at noon.

Bids Exceed Church Construction Budget

Sioux Center residents report Christ Reformed church rebuild bids far exceed the planned cost by seven to nine thousand dollars. A congregational meeting will be held next week to review new bids as the brick building aimed at twelve to thirteen thousand dollars. W S Scott of Scott and Beatty submitted another bid from Wayne Nebraska under the architect's revised plan.
