Appointed Trustees Preserve City Library and Pave Conditional Plans

At a Wednesday council session Mayor Sharles appointed F. R. Gaynor as a library trustee with Mrs. E. H. Bush and Mrs. A. Sartori reappointed. The Water and Light Co.’s injunction remains in force and hydrant flushing was urged. Aldermen discussed curb and gutter projects, street specifications, and sewer enhancements on Fifth Street and Block 27. City funds and recent fire department memberships were reviewed amid plans for street improvements and a fly pest educational film program. Commercial National Bank of Chicago president Geo E. Roberts warned of rising land values and shifting farming economics in the near future.

Fletcher resigns as division superintendent at Ft. Dodge effective June 15. Possible successors include William Atwell or a Union Pacific official. Division agent to be abolished. H R Arthur becomes traveling freight agent. Fletcher served 31 years. Illinois Central sues to recover about 2 million dollars in repair overcharges tied to grafting officials. Saloon Closures End Leeds Dry Era

Judge Gaynor of the district court finds Christian Beck Jr. guilty of contempt for violating an injunction and permanently closes his Leeds saloon. A permanent injunction also shuts Porr and Ludwig, the other Leeds saloon proprietors, leaving Leeds dry. Rev J B Stewart aided by local anti saloon leaders led the condemnation.

Klaver Brothers Visit LeMars From Akron In Muddy Triumph

The Klaver brothers and Pete Becker arrived from Akron on Thursday in the Klaver auto despite rain and mud. There were three Klavers, two entering the furniture business in Akron, the third Jake Klaver, a Cassville Wis newspaper man visiting. Their father Jacob Klauer Sr. was an early local resident and Haas Huebsch employee. Jake Jr. once worked on the LeMars Post. They left LeMars on Friday returning to Akron.

Wonderland motion theater passes to Mrs Ling

The Wonderland motion picture theatre is turned over to Mrs Ling who assumes all responsibility and will conduct the popular place of amusement. Under Mr Ing's management Wonderland becomes a recognized institution and aims to command patronage. Ling plans to travel but the theater will continue operations indefinitely.

Death of Mrs Henry Frerichs in Preston Township

Mrs Henry Frerichs died after a brief illness at 4 am Thursday at the home of Geo Frerichs in Preston township. Born February 11 1896 she died of childbirth at age 22. She leaves a one year old son and eight sisters and her husband Henry Frerichs. Funeral at 2 pm Saturday conducted by Rev Kresce from the Grant township cemetery.
