A bay horse team valued at 250 dollars was stolen from Thomas Welch’s barn in Hancock township on the night of June 6. Louis Eilers of Minden identified the recovered horses on Sunday after sheriff Arendt circulated descriptions from Council Bluffs. The thieves switched to a team of black mares at Welch’s and released the mule that followed, while no arrests were reported by last night. The loss and recovery were investigated as officers traced the thieves toward the Big Sioux river.
The health board has completed a statistical review of tax returns from the various assessors for the past year and forwarded the results to the state authorities for further action.
Samuel J Bushlow of Cherokee and Jennie Traux of Davenport Iowa secured a license at the courthouse on Tuesday and were married at 130 p m at the German Methodist parsonage with Rev Thiel officiating. The bride is 62 and a sister of Mrs Frank Van Buskirk of Preston township. Witnesses included A J Gegabol of Akron. The groom, from France, is 68 and a Union army veteran. They will reside in Cherokee.
The Board of Supervisors reported canvassing the vote from the primary. Incumbents Beely and Meyers were renominated on the Democratic line for coroner and surveyor, with Republican write‑ins for Struble and Smith and Kain, who will decline or must file choices. All Republican vacancies to be filled at the county convention. Democratic ticket complete.
Frank Smirth was arrested in Remsea and brought to LeMars by Marshal Sudmeyer. He appeared before Mayor Sharles and pled guilty to petit larceny, receiving a thirty day sentence in the county jail. Thomas Stokes an Iowa pioneer of Dublin birth died at his LeMars home aged eighty five after a stroke last week. He came to Plymouth county in 1870, lived in Stanton township thirty three years, retired to LeMars with his wife seven years ago. He served in the Mexican War and later in naval service. Surviving are ten children and the aged mother. Funeral today at two o'clock with Rev. Moore.
LeMars was defeated 4 to 2 at Akron yesterday. The home defeat marks the first loss in several games for LeMars after facing a strong inning from the opponent. Paullina visits with a 6 to 5 victory margin seen as a high scoring clash. The LeMars crew will travel to Kingsley today and Marcus is set to visit this Sunday for a contest.
A caboose derailed five miles north of Dalton on Monday evening as a freight train toppled into a ditch. Conductor C A Benne sustained a broken nose and serious spinal injuries, along with severe cuts and bruises. Brakeman Elmer Moffit of Sioux City escaped with minor injuries. They were taken to Merrill for treatment by Dr. G H Mammen, Merill’s company physician.
The Plymouth county board of supervisors reduced the gopher bounty from ten to two cents per pair of gopher feet and barred warrants for fewer than five pairs. The auditor faced a flood of last minute claims as word spread that a repeal might occur, prompting action to rein in payments.

The LeMars Hospital Association will hold its annual tag day on Monday June 27. It urges the public to respond lyrically and cheerfully as last year. Each person is asked for a small contribution, with the total expected to aid in meeting the hospital's operating deficiency.
The Farmers Bank at Brunsville began business Monday with J. L. Mitchell as president and G. H. Mammen as vice president. O. F. Vollmar of Brunsville serves as cashier and will manage the bank for the present. President Mitchell will also divide time with LeMars Savings Bank as cashier A W Dula is reappointed there. The new manganese steel safe shown at the Brunsville bank earlier was moved there for use.
Will iam Ducky Holmes, former manager of the Sioux City Packers and recent Toledo American Association coach, married Miss Merte Rogers several weeks ago. The bride, a Sioux City public school teacher, joined Holmes as the Toledo team played in the Twin Cities. Holmes is separated from his previous wife, who brought a salt claim from Rapid City, S. D.
T A Polleys visits LeMars to collect land sale and assessment data from Plymouth county. The table shows Plymouth leading in land sold, Remsen and Stanton high average prices, and overall county selling values rising about 37 percent since Jan 1, 1907. Farm land assessments lag selling prices, especially in cheaper townships.
The ceremony, performed by Rev. F. E. Mossman of Winfield, Kansas, honored the pride groom with an uncle as a key member. A breakfast at the bride’s parents’ home followed the nuptials, attended by Morning Side students and friends, including sixteen Mellethian Society members. At three in the afternoon a reception for the bride’s friends took place in Kingsley.
In the evening Mr and Mrs Mossman visited the D C Mossman home after attending the college commencement. Both young people were students at the college where Mr Mossman will receive a degree this week.
Several Eagle lodge members will travel to Sioux City today to attend the state convention for the Eagles al lows during the remainder of the week.
