In urging nationwide reform, the Crime Commission advocates overhauling lower courts to curb inequity and inefficiency. It favors non election judges, a model timetable, case based bail, revised vagrancy laws, and better counsel for the poor to reduce justice by pay, with broad reform deemed necessary.
Des Moines reports outgoing president of the Iowa State Bar Association says the people of Iowa don’t know how poor the court system is as legislature considers court reform bills. Senate passed measures face opposition from justices of the peace who would be abolished if enacted.
