Reynols and Day Brae room a diligent Crook County stockman and Bear Lodge district bride Mrs. A P Anderson. Mrs. Hardy a popular and skilled teacher married last week. The Globe joins friends in wishing them happiness and prosperity.
Red Cross officers meet with Mrs. C C Btorm to set Saturday as regular meeting day at the Red Cross room. Mr B L Bush is chairman of cutting and sewing with helpers chosen by each chairperson. Members report knitted items and socks sent to homes, more material on order, calls for volunteers to help at the work room.
The Globe marks its eleventh year of service in northern Crook county inaugurating a four page issue. The editors invite reader submissions on any affairs of interest and announce a price increase to two dollars annually with an extra fifty cents for two additional home print pages.
University of Maine President Dr. Robert J. Aley lists ten non combat roles for civilians to support the war effort. Actions include staying informed, reporting suspected alien enemies, conserving resources, supporting Liberty Loans, practicing frugality, influencing public opinion, aiding soldiers' families, showing optimism, and increasing productivity to offset draft withdrawals.
Green Todd, a Crook county resident of about forty years, died at his Sundance home last Saturday afternoon from cancer after a year of ill health. He was nearly 75, once a county commissioner and coroner, beloved for his kindly nature. He leaves a wife and two brothers. The Globe offers condolences to the family.
Los Angeles inventor Robert Morton demonstrates a wireless controlled submersible that operates entirely submerged with a mast above water. The device, termed a radio submarine, uses wireless commands to steer and fire torpedoes, offering a potential fleet of nonhuman combat subs cheaper than manned submarines and capable of destroying enemy ports with minimal human risk.
In a Fort Russell paper doctored with a poem by Maryanne Harris Hinkle, Everett Rundell at Camp Logan praises volunteers who joined the nation’s first call. The piece contrasts volunteers with draftees and honors the civilian willingness to serve for liberty and democracy.
A letter from J. L. Todd recalls the 19th century Stoneville killings in Wyoming near Devil’s Tower.
