Wilbur Wright announced a series of official flights after testing his aeroplane on Governor's Island. Crowds gathered along the Battery as Glenn Curtiss postponed flights due to wind.
Providence astronomer Frank F Seagrave says a minor error in calculations places Dalley's comet and earth on May 19, 1910 in the same orbital plane. The two bodies will approach within about 13 million miles, with the comet’s tail crossing the plane rather than the earth.
In a criminal courtroom ceremony Judge Pritchard and officials witnessed Eva C. Sparks, described as a colored woman, wed by Rev. McDonald after Sparrow Woessner and the sheriff obtained a marriage license. The couple exited hand in hand amid solemn rites.
Brooklyn police arrest Harry Sickert amid a theft spree that saw more than 200 horses and wagons stolen from Brooklyn stables. Detectives tie most stolen horses to a Hoboken livery stable and shipments to various states while a youth in the gang may confess. Sickert held for examination in Adams Street court.
Joseph Malden pledges to abstain from intoxicants for two years in juvenile court. He is fined 250 dollars and 90 days in the workhouse, suspended if he remains sober, after being charged with neglect of his child. He reportedly spent wages at saloons leaving his wife and child in hunger.
Quartermaster Sergeant James Carron of Company I Twenty ninth infantry shot himself in his tent outside Fort Jay Governor's Island NYC amid Curtiss Wright flight excitement. It was the second self inflicted death on the island in three weeks.
Joseph L. Reiley a Democrat is chosen secretary to the Indiana Railroad Commission at a $2,500 yearly salary. The appointment follows resignations and party balance rules as Judge Wood and Judge McClure supported Reiley, deemed capable and loyal to the Democrats. Reiley has long served the Democratic state central committee and is a North Vernon resident.
The Marott Department Store marks one year since opening with a gala celebration and an anniversary sale. The store plans sunburst decorations, an emphasis on fashionable garments, and promotional pricing to attract shoppers, while Massachusetts avenue merchants promote the event with banners and mottoes.
The steamer Roosevelt under Capt. Bartlett returns to New York with Commander Peary's successful polar expedition. Whistles echo as it anchors near Sandy Hook and crowds view the ship from passing steamers. Bartlett expects Peary to join for the river parade from Portland, Maine.
Westinghouse Electric announces a regular quarterly dividend of 1 percent on first preferred stock and an additional 3 percent for accumulated deferred dividends on the same issue. Both payments are due October 15. A return to dividends had been anticipated but no action was expected before January at the earliest.
A. E. Harlan Madison County clerk and noted Anderson politician met Ed V. Fitzpatrick clerk of the supreme and appellate courts to discuss the state accounting bureau. Harlan says the new law’s impact remains uncertain and favors experience and testing to gauge its value.
On request of Lew Shank Republican candidate for mayor Judge Remster continued the city case against Mr Shank charged with violating the ordinance relating to auctioneers shipping goods into the city and selling them at auction. The city attorney asked for a continuance of the case. The case is an appeal from the police court. Newton W Harding who Shank defeated for mayor was Shank's attorney in the police court trial. Alfred R Hovey now represents Mr Shank.
Delphi Republican leader Charlies B. Landis visits Indianapolis meeting state leaders and city ticket actors while denying immediate plans for a Ninth District return. He hints at Delphi and Carroll county interests and keeps talk of a possible congressional race unresolved.
New teachers at Whittier School No 33 on E Twelfth and Sterling Streets hosted a reception Wednesday for parents and patrons. The event featured music by teachers and students with Miss Anna Brochhausen central, and hints of forming a mothers club to boost school community and home school cooperation.
Mrs. C. M. Fillmore of Commerce Avenue travels to Shelbyville Indiana on Saturday for the twentieth annual reunion of the charter members of the Woman's club. The club began as the first organization of its kind in Shelbyville with three charter members from distant cities and states attending yearly for greetings and celebrations.
At 3 50 am Thursday an E Washington street car collided with a street sweeper on Highland and Washington. Paul Alstadt years old suffered serious injuries after being thrown to the street and dragged under the sweeper. He was taken to City hospital by Bicycle Patrolmen Trimpe and Rucker. Alstadt resides at 1327 Shelby street.
Judge Remster scolded officers for half prepared cases and warned lawyers to appear on trial dates. William Hoffman is found not guilty of peddling without a license after proving delivery of groceries and possession of a valid license. Isidor Wulfson was not ready in the Coble scales case and the judge warned dismissal if delays continue.
Judge Leathers voids the marriage of George A. Coles and Lizzie A. Coles on grounds of prior unresolved divorce. Canfield claimed a divorce decree, but Coles maintained she had never been divorced from George W. Coles. former Noblesville residents now involved in dispute over common law marriage and remarriage in Indianapolis.
Theresa Hukriede sues her husband’s mother Katy Kukriede alleging alienation of affection and defamation. She seeks damages of 35,000 claiming the mother-in-law coaxed her husband to leave and damaged her character.
Cyrus W. Neal Indiana insurance commissioner travels to Chicago Thursday night for a vacation. He will attend the final series between the Celts and Pirates in the National League and will watch the Tigers play the White Sox. Outside these events his schedule for the next ten days is indefinite.
Mrs James H Channon a Chicago society figure and her husband allegedly prompted the arrest of George C Hazleton a New York playwright and L Scott Kemper a New York lawyer in a blackmail plot. They are accused of engineering a scheme to victimize Zhana Nons for more than 100000.
John Callahan foreman for Moore Mansfield Construction was injured when run over by a car driven by Hendricks county treasurer elect Jacob O Neal. Callahan 40 was taken to St Vincent hospital in a semi conscious state with a broken right leg in three places. O Neal was arrested on assault and battery charges after the incident at Senate avenue and Washington street where sewer work is under construction. Callahan operates nearby and lives at 72 Lord street Amo Indiana.
George F. Culley of 6029 Illinois Street faced a police court on a larceny charge from Ven Cam Co Hardware. He was fined $9 and ten days in the workhouse after detectives Morgan and Lancaster showed he betrayed trust by stealing while hired to monitor other clerks.
Prosecutor Hooton said the Sunday baseball law test case will be tried in criminal court next Monday. A special venire has been drawn for the jury in the Charles Carr case, who is charged with playing baseball on Sunday.
