A Havana dispatch says the battle near Manzanillo in San Iago de Cuba province pitted 2,000 Spanish soldiers under Col Ruiz against 2,000 Cuban insurgents led by Gen. Rabí and Carlos Juria. Spaniards fled by sea after a daylong fight with heavy losses. Rebel forces under Gen Rafael de Cardenas and Gen Alejandro Rodriguez defeated a Spanish column near Guines, with many Spanish guns and horses captured. An excursion train from Indianapolis to Cincinnati derailed after hitting an open switch at Cleaves about 15 miles from Cincinnati. The engine and baggage car left the tracks but passengers remained shaken. Train service resumed with cars replaced, and the train reached Indianapolis at 1:45 AM Monday after departing Cincinnati at 7 PM Sunday.

Cornelius Haris, a colored Bates house kitchen worker, was struck by a Big Four train at the W Washington street crossing early Sunday. From Athens on May 17 Greek forces engage Turkish troops at Domoko where Edhem Pasha advances with about 40,000 soldiers. Crown Prince Constantine reports the Turks within seven kilometers. Premier Ralli meets the foreign minister after the dispatch. Fighting spreads along the Greek line as 30,000 Turks are attacked by Greek units on the left wing.
Belle Johnson, a colored woman, attempted to whip her son on a Saturday night. Clarence Williams, a boarder, interfered and was fined by Judge Cox for starting the disturbance. Belle struck Clarence with a lighted lamp, with the incident ending in a small court action.
Last week car movement reached 22 896, up 800 from the prior week. Death of Mrs Matilda Ridgely at 588 E Georgia St reported as natural causes after a post mortem.
