London May 15 The Sultan coolly defies the powers by delaying talks on an armistice until religious festivals end. Edhem Pasha presses toward Thessaly as Turkish aims grow bolder. The Powers fear coercion and await the Sultan's move while Turkey seeks favorable terms and potential territorial gains.
A 18 year old girl living on Washington Street attempted suicide by morphine after heartbreak and despair. Dr Mark Thomas of the City dispensary intervened to prevent her death. Epworth leagues in the city held a mass meeting at Central Avenue M E church where Epworth officers for the city were installed, with Rev Dr Lasby presiding. New officers include President Herbert M Atkinson and Flora Askren among others. A social hour followed with light refreshments.
Forecasts for Indianapolis and vicinity for the 36 hours ending 8 p m May 16 call for generally fair and warmer conditions. Saturday night and Sunday are expected to be warmer with daytime readings around the mid sixties to seventy. Noon temperature reported around 69 degrees with rising readings into the afternoon.
Dr J N Hurty of Indianapolis and secretary of the state health board will present a paper to the American Chemical Society at the University of Cincinnati on a new physico chemical method to determine the food value of cereals. The building, owned by the Ritzinger heirs, suffered only minor damage and the firm is insured.
H B Gentry will stay three more days and two afternoons with his dog and pony show at Illinois and Prati streets as demand remains high. The tent was crowded Friday with many turned away. He warned the nation had seen little real improvement since 1896 and urged replacement of a faltering party amid rising discontent, citing distrust in party leaders and electoral promises.

About 100 mostly boys attended Aja Joboe’s Friday night act in Tomlinson Hall. The performance featured water to wine tricks, a cabinet routine, and a hypnotic finale that failed to impress the crowd. Charles Doolittle slept briefly but demanded pay, while others mocked the Hindoo as staged trickery. The show ended with jeers as workers and spectators deemed the act faked.
The Parker public works firm cancels the Saturday entertainment after a Friday show netted about 1.50 in gate receipts with 45 percent shared by the city. Washington May 15 Orders have been sent to Rear Admiral Montgomery Sicard to prepare the flagship New York for sea at a moment's warning. The vessel is to be coal filled to capacity and held ready possibly for Key West. Naval officers believe it may be sent to Havana in response to Cuban relief plans.
