Remarkable Eye Replacement Uses Hot Paraffin Shell
Cincinnati May 7 A bold surgical advance was used at City Hospital to save a damaged eye. August Rebban, only two days in the hospital, had an eyeball punctured by hot paraffin from a glue tank. Surgeons removed only the eye shell, filled a new artificial eye with heated paraffin to form a marble sized core, implanted it in the socket, and covered with a color matched shell. The eye will move with the head and could be indistinguishable from a natural eye once healing completes.
