In a police court scene Rev Wheeler from the Rescue Mission brings two eight year old sisters to Judge Stubbs. The judge, who had previously leniently suspended a prison sentence, receives the girls warmly as they thank him for mercy that helped transform their father from an abusive drinker into a trusted employee.
The State printing board postponed deciding whether to print State geologist Blatchley’s report at a meeting called by Gov. Durbin. Clerk Carter was tasked to trim the report to fit limited funds amid claims of political influence and potential legal action to compel publication. Blatchley and state officials dispute funding and contents, with costs cited up to 10,000.
Broad Ripple street car company will replace the damaged street car barns burned recently. Mr. McGowan said plans are not yet prepared but the new barn will be similar in size to the old one and work will commence soon.

An automobile driven by Mrs. C. A. Wallingford’s guest veered to the curb to avoid a carriage turning into a alley. The front wheel tore off and the car sustained other damage. The driver accepted full blame for the incident and escaped serious injury to the man in the carriage.
May 3 Washington. The president sent to the senate the nomination of H Clay Evans of Tennessee to be consul general of the United States at London England.
Forecast for Indianapolis and vicinity for the 36 hours ending 8 pm May 4 calls for partly cloudy skies with probable showers Saturday night and Sunday. Temperatures range from 68 early to 83 at noon and 85 in the afternoon. Winds easterly with possible rain in adjacent states.
The George W. Stout company of Indianapolis filed articles with capital 200000 dollars. The Avenue department store of Indianapolis filed articles of incorporation with capital 5000 dollars. Incorporators and directors include E. V. Williamson CE Barrett and J. E. Kepperley. Other incorporations listed are The Golden Cure Company Hammond 50000 dollars and Rockport Milling Company Rockport 10000 dollars. The Wabash Valley Loan and Savings Association announced a capital increase from 750000 to 1000000 dollars.
County superintendents of schools met at the state house Saturday to tackle unifying teachers' report cards. Carpenters' union No. 281 voted for the Labor temple per capita tax Friday night. The union raised its initiation fee from $10 to 216.

In Nashville Tennessee residents form beef clubs to purchase meat direct from farmers as a response to rising prices and shortages. Local reports indicate sales have fallen by about 50 percent while communities organize to secure supplies.
Mrs Walter Horne reportedly took a tablespoonful of chloroform by mistake while taking medicine for chest and lungs. Saturday morning the incident occurred. physicians were summoned and neighbors spread word of a supposed suicide attempt. Her husband, a partner in Horne Brothers painters at 17 N Titnelist, says the accident was accidental. They have been married about two years.
Thomas Settles, 34, climbed a Fall Creek piling after chasing around Meridian club house, claiming his wife was on the other side. Patrolman Hart urged him down with pleas while Settles jumped to the edge, then into the water, finally being captured after his wife fell to ground. Settles worked at the fair grounds.
Prosecutor Collins sparred over a Friday night fight between Martin Dugan, nearly 60, and Michael Hughes. Dugan received a suspended sentence due to age, while Hughes was fined 10 dollars plus costs. The hearing offered little clarity on what sparked the clash.

A dynamite explosion in Brookly n Indiana rattled the town early Saturday injuring no one reported. The blast wrecked the big dam and the Big White Lick fish ladder tearing into McDaniel and Toppings mill and a public bridge while shattering glass in several houses. The shock was felt four miles away with residents north of the dam arguing the ladder was insufficient to allow fish passage.
Banks and trust companies in Indianapolis will close at noon on Saturdays for the year following a new agreement. Aimed at real estate dealers and plumbing establishments, several firms including the C. W. Merkel Co plan noon Saturday closings next week. The city comptroller's office will also observe Saturday closings in summer.
Frank Hedges appeared before Judge Stubbs Saturday morning after being bound over to the grand jury on a charge of attempted murder. Patrolmen Alberts and Samuels testified that the incident occurred six weeks ago. Hedges was unable to furnish the $1,000 bond and was sent to jail.

A baby girl was found in a basket on the doorstep of A J Gerstner at 1222 Park Avenue Tuesday night. Neighbors praised the couple for taking in orphans and a note from the mother asked for a chance to grow up in a good home. Mrs Gerstner, a longtime caregiver of children, says she will care for the infant and hopes no more children arrive for a few years.
