May 2 report on packers boycotting livestock to prop up beef prices. Commission men urge farmers and shippers to hold cattle as packers coordinate with retail butchers to maintain high prices. Cattle prices fell 25 to 40 cents per hundred on Friday, but retailers expect no major price drops. Federal court action to enjoin packers is anticipated early next week.

About 40 Shortridge high school pupils rode a Pennsylvania special at 1 45 a m Friday to Columbus for the annual interscholastic oratorical contest. They wore blue and white, wore candidate Coburn Allen buttons, and carried banners as they eagerly aim to repeat last year’s first place win. The subject is The highest heritage of humanity and the Spanish club meets later with Miss Mary Alice Sloan.
Topeka reports David Overmeyer a Vernon Jennings County native now in Topeka is being boomed as a Democratic presidential candidate. Former Republican, he has led Kansas Democrats and is a lawyer there. John W. Kern praised his abilities as a strong Kansas prospect.
Alexander Downie remains in dangerous condition at City hospital after being shot by Dr. J. H. Parsons. The family refuses immediate surgery to remove the bullet, but physicians believe operation is the only chance to save his life as the bullet presses on the spinal cord, a situation likened to Thomas Degolyer’s recent broken neck operation.
Thomas M Chill of 1617 Yandesst celebrated his ninetyeth birthday with music and refreshments on Thursday. Attendees included Rev. Bryan Carter his wife Mrs Sallie Pearson two sons and many volunteers from the local firemen club led by member Charles Richl and other members Henry H Hinkle James M Robbins Wm Millender David Brouse Isaac Frankem and Daniel Shearer.
Troops from the Eighteenth Cavalry swarmed Balog station en route to Fort Davidson Nebraska. They report three years of Cuba service and returned to the United States four days ago.

Dennis and Rusha Beach appeared in the police court amid claims of excessive love and domestic strife. Judge Stubbs advised Rusha to file for divorce, noting the only way to end the trouble was to end the marriage.
Mrs. Rusha A. Beach filed for divorce from Harry C. Snyder after a police court case. She alleges he taunted her in a park, cried, and drew a crowd, then she agreed to return before separating again. She claims he scolded struck choked and threatened to kill her. Beach was represented by L E Reinhold.
A triangular relay race during a dedication ceremony features Culver, M T H 8, and Shortridge teams. Culver cadets were invited for the event on May 15, promising a lively contest as they have defeated top preparatory schools.

State auditor Hart will block The League of Educators business in Indiana citing it as an investment company without a license. He follows an Attorney-general opinion approving a probe and requiring a $50 000 deposit and plan approval before licensing. Reports indicate inquiries from Terre Haute Fort Wayne Hammond and Elkhart.
Frank Hedges, longtime Indianapolis police figure, was captured near Urbana with his wife and baby after living in a thatched den. He admits being with Lon Henderson the night patrolmen were attacked, claiming Henderson did the shooting. Urbana police sent his wife and child to Indianapolis as the hunt for Henderson continues with a $100 reward.
Kokomo Indiana May 2. Mrs Elizabeth Freel was found dead in bed on Friday morning. She had eight brothers who died suddenly including Harold Mills of Greenville Ohio found sitting against a tree with a shotgun across his knee while hunting in Michigan.
Secretary Harry of the State health board describes Sullivan County with around 100 smallpox cases and a virulent spread. He notes miners as a hard hit group, a child died last Thursday, and local officials lack funds to fight the disease though he personally funded vaccines.
Mayor Bookwalter says the proposed wine room ordinance remains in limbo with City Attorney Joss. Judge Stubbs notes Indianapolis is safer than Chicago but supports future regulation to keep wine rooms closed as the city grows. The mayor repeats the wine rooms are closed and awaits legal action.
Noted as Harry Behman from Indianapolis, he died Thursday while on duty. Police Supt. Taffe is asked to locate his relatives. The man’s name does not appear in the current city directory.
Washington Congressman Amos J. Cummings was reported sinking at 2 30 p m Friday in Baltimore while in Nebraska City the will of the late J Sterling Morton was opened The estate valued at about 100 000 is divided among Mortons four sons with an annuity to Miss Emma Morton sister of the deceased
Mrs. Peter Lawson of Duplin County is arrested after Henry Carter in Kinston jail alleges she hired him to murder her husband. Carter claims he shot Lawson through a window while the couple and friends heard music in an adjacent room.
Buffalo sources report that several small contractors signed the carpenters' agreement at 3 3/4 cents an hour. More than 4,000 workers including carpenters plumbers and iron workers are affected by the tie up in the local building trades.
John Mitchell says he has kept his promise not to disclose findings of the sub committee and dismisses reports as guesswork as miners await a Civic Federation meeting called by Senator Hanna to resolve the threatened strike. He asserts the seven member committee alone knows what the conciliation committee will report.
George Bone bailiff of superior court room No. 3 at home on Lexington Avenue is in serious condition. An incident weeks ago when a friend booted him from behind led to an abscess at the base of the spine. He has undergone two operations and cannot recall the caller. His recovery is uncertain.
The appellate court Friday affirmed a $500 judgment awarded in Marion Superior Court to Royal Robinson against Indiana Bermudez Asphalt Co. Hobdinson claimed a commission for negotiating a Brazil property sale to J. M. Lily. The sale contract was made but the company and Lily later clashed and the deal collapsed.
