Four year old Martha Thompson daughter of Justice George R Thompson ran toward home on Camden across Third Street and was struck by a trolley car. She escaped with no injuries but mourned the crushed candy ground to powder beneath the wheels.
In Chicago on May 1 the Pink Tea era at the Manhattan current literature club led to Tom Bradford’s arrest on fraud charges. Grand jury witnesses arrived in carriages and the jury room resembled a pink tea scene with Mrs. Farwell Sackett Dyer and Miss Underwood among the attendees. Indictment was voted against Bradford.

Lima papers claim former consul McBride levelled sensational charges of defrauding the government. The state department sees no criminal misconduct by Dickey but notes his effectiveness as a U S servant has been diminished.
