Dispatches from central and northern Louisiana report that 49 people have died as tornadoes and storms sweep the state for 48 hours, with numerous homes damaged and crews assessing the widespread devastation.
City engineer Nelson proposes asphalt streets on Noble from Washington to Virginia and Pine from English to Virginia. wooden blocks on Shelby State and Park avenues and Broadway. bituminous macadam on State from Michigan to Washington. officials expect many kickers to apply, about six deep for weeks.
March 14 report says Col Norman Dike, appointed successor after Gov Odell ousted him, forced entry with deputies to take control of the Brooklyn sheriff's office. Charles Guden, a Republican, had locked himself in and refused admittance after Odell ordered vigorous action.

Detective McGuff Martin McGuff moves from the police to the fire department by his own request. He will likely be stationed at the headquarters and may drive the water tower. The transfer lowers his daily pay from $2.50 to $2.25 while he works six 24 hour days per week with on call duty on days off. Bicycle policeman Manning will take the post when McGuff departs.

St Louis on March 14 reports a planned pistol duel at Hyde Park between George Delarey a hair dresser and Oliver a draughtsman. After a quarrel they chose weapons and seconds and appear ready for a real fight Sunday afternoon unless plans are changed.

Fire swept the Easton avenue sheds of the St Louis Transit Company, destroying 45 cars and overwhelming four dwellings. Fifty one people were left homeless with numerous narrow escapes. Total damage is estimated at 150 thousand dollars, transit company to cover 135 thousand.

Dallas Cathérell, 34, colored, of 953 W Walnut St, is diagnosed with smallpox. Health officials cannot determine how he contracted the disease.
John Hinshaw’s three year old mule team freaked after he opened the gate. The mules pulled the wagon into a windmill well, overturning the mill. After nearly two hours of effort by Nora residents, both mules were freed with only minor injuries to Hinshaw and the animals.
Bob Bryson a Republican member of the Board of Safety did not attend the board meeting on Friday he appeared earlier grinning and said he could not stay. The same day the Republican primaries were held. Clerk Woods said there would be no harm in a possible political errand but Conrad Keller another Republican member said he would not dabble in politics and planned to go to Irvington with Member Schoppenhorst Friday afternoon.
Park board met Friday and discussed golf including Coffin who backs another course at Riverside park. Board claims funds exist for golf links amid hills hollows mudholes streams and weeds at Riverside. Current course by the bear pit is fine and a new layout from the deer pen will be prepared.
