A historic rainstorm drenched Indianapolis with nearly four inches overnight. Jackson Park, Pogue’s Run, and sections of Newman to Twenty-Fifth streets flooded, with boats used for rescues while sewers failed to cope. Central districts reported rising water and overturned equipment as residents evacuated to higher ground.
Residents near Pogues Run gathered in Brookside and Windscraves to oppose a city sewer project funded from the general tax base. A 46 member committee was formed to organize a mass meeting, draft a formal remonstrance, and seek signatures from affected property owners. County surveyor Cowper warned of flood risks if obstructions remain, while many property owners argued they already paid thousands and cannot afford a heavy assessment.
In the Indiana House a heated Thursday vote on the Tugs three-seat fare measure sparked protest from Mr Juiick and a personal privilege clash. Speaker Pettit defended the ruling, declaring Statesman the lobbyist a friend while noting the chair’s conduct. The session also advanced a county officers bill and other measures, with the governor expected to decide on key items.

Washington march 5 exsenator Sherman honored as secretary of state and the full cabinet confirmed with no objections. President McKinley issued a call for an extra session of Congress to convene march 15 after the inauguration and cabinet farewell.

Mr Grigsby, 114 Southeastern Ave, celebrated his wife’s 83rd birthday. he is 95 and braved a Thursday storm in rubber boots to shield lettuce. Engineer Mansfield of the Pennsylvania railroad discusses lowering the J M I tree at Manney and Morris with city officials on Thursday. No conclusion reached. Ty nsfield stated his company would raise tracks and bridge the streets, but the city would pay a portion. Cal T Dewning said the city would do nothing of the kind.
The Indiana reformatory board was appointed Thursday by Gov. Mount. Members are Lugh H. Hanna of Indianapolis, ex-Congressman George W. Cooner of Columbus, Senator Thomas Erintson of Fort Wayne, and James R. Henry of Gosport. Dr Ralph Wilson of the City Dispensary asked for leave and left for parts unknown with a new overcoat, dress suit, and suspicious packages including a parchment-like roll.
The May music festival association directors keep season ticket prices at 10 8 and 4 dollars despite the high expense of securing Calve for the festival. On Calve’s concert night single seats rise by one dollar.
Fred Sims of Frankfort was elected by district 9 county chairmen to fill the vacancy on the state Republican central committee after Ambrose Moore resigned and moved to Indianapolis about three months ago.
