Wreck on Baltimore and Ohio hits three miles from Zanesville
A Baltimore and Ohio wrecking train jumped the Deepent track near Zanesville Ohio about noon Thursday, plunging down a 12 foot embankment. Three men were killed instantly including engineer FP Johns and fireman. Fatally injured were Till Dialosis and J A Smart. six or seven others seriously hurt. Victims were taken to Zanesville for treatment. Cause of the disaster is unknown.

Fire damages historic Porter mansion in Capitol avenue
A late morning fire severely damaged the old three story brick Porter home at 105 N Capitol Ave. near the Capitol. Flames spread from a north room on the second floor through a floor to roof flue. Gov Albert Porter and son George were awakened late. firemen confined the blaze to the center of the house. Loss to the house about 2500 dollars with furnishings ruined by water. Porter has long carried fire insurance and received no earlier benefits. Inmates were awakened and escaped. 73 year old William Martin died at the county asylum Wednesday night. The article notes the house built after the war by Fatout and purchased by Porter in 1869. The fire alarms came from Flinst street observers. Assistant Chief Coots helped control the fire rapidly.

Mystery surrounds the death of Edward Pfeiffer
Edward F Pfeiffer a 22 year old bookkeeper for Fairbanks Morse Co in Indianapolis was found dead in an elevator on Meridian Street top floor of a four story building. He lay in a pool of blood with a broken neck after disappearance at 1015 am. The cause remains a mystery with two theories fainting or a fall. Coroners investigated but could not conclude. He was unmarried with no local relatives. He lived at Plaza hotel on Monument Place and was a Catholic and member of the Young Men's Institute.
