President McKinley spoke to 400 Chicago Columbia Post members at the Ellicott club in Buffalo. His address recalled Civil War days and urged peace while stirring tears and cheers as veterans remembered past battles and pledged loyalty.
The annual G. A. R. parade opened on a Wednesday afternoon in Buffalo New York with about five thousand veterans marching through the streets. A full display highlighted the city celebration and drew sizable crowds.
Thousands gather at Elliott Square for a Grand Army of the Republic dinner with President McKinley, Secretary Alger, and Gov Black in attendance. A living shield of 1,000 schoolgirls, 300 bands, and grand parade with flags and arches mark the day, ending at Camp Jewett with a reception for dignitaries.
A banquet stretched to 10 30 p m with the president loudly cheered as he exited the hall accompanied by Commander in Chief Clarkson.
Reported in Cleburne county six Black men were hanged by a mob after a Wendall picnic riot in which two white men were badly wounded and one died. A deputy sheriffs posse burned another Black man in Dew county and a body was found at Pine Bluff.

She described the family as a “bad lot” while recounting the last moments and her own striking, emotional testimony. Attorney Spaan indicated the aim was to place witnesses on record before grand jury action.
The Democratic group named Hermitage Club forms with a 420000 capital stock, one vote per stockholder, and $3 annual dues. Officers elected include Alonzo Green Smith as president Henry Warrum vice president Thomas One secretary Edgar A Perkins assistant secretary and C L Barrett treasurer. Clodfelter with taking 850,000 from the Indianapolis Anderson Marion electric railroad. A Chicago affidavits package questions the transaction and character, suggesting perjury by one side and muddled facts. Enrichtung is Cook County Tih surveyor. Tanner suspects Clodfelter aims to harass him with lawsuits.

Police court heard how a Sal vation Army unit on Massachusetts Avenue confronted a group of youths led by Harry Charis. A captain was struck after demanding order, resulting in a broken nose for the captain and the arrest of the assailant Chandler. The captain was acquitted and the boys released to guardians with warnings about the army’s need for discipline amid taunts by the neighborhood gang.
