An echo meeting of the big Christian endeavor in San Francisco was held at Meridian Street M E church with delegates sharing experiences. The convention awarded to the Indianapolis Christian Endeavor Union was not presented as it sank with the City of Mexico. Albert Newhouse was bound over to the grand jury on a $2,000 bond after a fire at his father in law’s barn. His wife testified to threats to burn out anyone who treated him wrong. He also threatened his father in law Valentine Apple whose barn burned for unknown reasons.
The Board of Children's Guardians excludes colored children from its home, prompting objections. Officials say colored orphans are sent to the Colored Orphans' Home, near the workhouse, where some parents reclaim their children. A meeting of colored people may be organized to protest the policy.
Police found Ella Cole in night attire and Sandy Jones in shirt and trousers at her home on White, Blackford and North streets after a disturbance over alleged improper relations. Both were acquitted. Mrs. Cole, a colored Baptist member, mocked Prosecutor Walker on the stand. Sandy had come down from a room above to fetch his coat and deliver a cough remedy.
Sherman Rousch, a night clerk at the Illinois house, and his wife Della quarrel over control of their marriage. He retrieved a trunk hid on the roof and hired an express wagon to move it. Della claimed he struck her, but the judge found no proof of big blows. Their child moved between parents in police court.
Five pounds of powder weighted with stones a fuse and a match caused a loud blast near Greer and Buchanan streets on Monday afternoon. The explosion shook houses for a block and tore a ground hole. No one was harmed as bystanders were absent and the youths fled to an alley after lighting the fuse. Hat racks and various items advertised at William L. Elder's store noted.
