In Havana on July 26 details emerged of a fierce engagement at Cartegena Burros and Los Etnocos near Cienfregos. About 2,000 men fought. Rego defended a Cuban hospital as Spaniards bayoneted forward. Casualties were 40 Spanish dead and 64 wounded versus 24 Cuban dead and 50 wounded.
Weather forecast for Indianapolis and vicinity through the next 86 hours ending 8 p m July 27 calls for fair conditions. Monday night and Tuesday are expected to be clear with mild temperatures. Noon reading Monday was 83 degrees while 2 p m seen 56 degrees.

The noted physician and lecturer Dr J M Peebles arrived in Indianapolis on Sunday coming from London. He has completed three trips around the globe and plans to make Indianapolis his future home.
Sophia Hafner sues the Big Four railroad for fifteen thousand dollars claiming she was crossing a rail line when struck by a passenger train. She and her husband were thrown out, she sustained permanent injuries, and the suit names the railroad and parties involved.

Broad Ripple park becomes a camping ground for two weeks hosting the Pentecost bands of America during the annual harvest home conference. About 406 tents are spread with the largest 100 by 80 feet for main services. 100 members are on site with more expected. Services run daily at 6 9 30 and 11 am and 2 30 and 8 pm. Thomas H Nelson of the Indianapolis band leads the meetings. Twelve young men and eight young women will be ordained into the ministry during the conference.
