Citizens demand immediate city action to purge Fall Creek of sewage and refuse that fill the waterway. Residents cite heightened typhoid risk, foul odors, and blighted property values as justification for a costly but necessary cleanup through the city’s heart.
Deputy sheriff J T Lysaght fired a large caliber bullet at his mother Mrs Katherine Lysaght in the family home at 531 N Noble street at about 2 am thinking a burglar was present. The bullet grazed her head as she neared the stairway, narrowly avoiding a fatal shot. Police and relatives were shaken by the incident.
The International Stewards’ association plans a major push for a 200000 dollar training school at Winona Technical Institute. The annual Indianapolis convention August 17 to 18 will decide the project. Officers include F. F. Falisse president and J. Edward Krause Indianapolis branch president.
Thirty needy mothers and children were taken to the Salvation Army fresh air farm near New Augusta Tuesday afternoon for a week of wholesome meals and clean beds at no cost. A lawn fete Wednesday evening will raise funds for the farm, with Maj Escott and friends among attendees.
Dan Waugh of Tipton Indiana former congressman and judge called at Gov Marshall's office on Tuesday to express approval of Marshall policies and procedures. Secretary Thistlethwaite acknowledged the greetings in the governor's absence as Waugh, a Republican, conveyed friendly sentiment toward the Democratic administration.
Mrs Grover Williams remains in critical condition at City Hospital after an assault last Thursday. Police have no lead on the attacker and report no new progress in solving the case. The Williamses resided at 1516 Churchman Avenue.
Tokyo dispatch reports a terror squall off Kobe drowning 457 sailors as nearly every boat in the coral fleet was lost. The disaster struck yesterday as the fleet fished offshore near Kobe, leaving little shelter or survivors among crew.
Mrs. Robert W. Chambers wife of the author was found by the roadside east of Broadalbin after hours of searching for her galloping horse rider leas. She had been thrown and was unconscious but later revived and carried home. A physician said she was not seriously injured.
Robert C. Wyllie, a well known insurance broker, died Monday at his home 2427 E. Tenth Street after several months illness. He belonged to the E Tenth Street M E church and is survived by a widow and one married daughter. The funeral is at his home at 12 30 Wednesday afternoon and the body will be taken to Shelbyville for burial.
Stockholm reports no newspapers published as authorities keep control. “The Answer” remains the official organ of the strikers and the situation mirrors yesterday with no change in daily publication.
Delegates at the national G A R encampment in Salt Lake City split between business and pleasure. A morning council of administration met with Daughters of Veterans and the Andersonville prison board. Events include nurses, relief corps, ex prisoners, and speeches by Spry Starrett King and Nevins. The commander race narrows to William A Ketcham of Indianapolis and Samuel R Vansant of Minneapolis, with Ketcham favored.
On August 17 a large group from Indianapolis will travel to Niagara Falls free after securing 25 subscribers for the Indianapolis Sun for three months. The trip, via the Big Four route, offers a round trip ticket with subscribers paying six cents weekly. no money collection by organizers.

A charity game Aug 28 at Washington Park featuring Marion Club vs Sherman Council to fund orphans. Evansville Ind Aug 10 A nine year old girl Lorena Kuntz fell into a bonfire while playing Indian with companions. She was severely burned on the face and hands and is expected to die.
Rochester August 10 authorities moved toward solving the Anna Schumacher cemetery slaying after arresting a suspect. A tall woman in a pink dress seen with Schumacher Saturday is sought, while a posse scoured Holy Sepulcher cemetery near St. Bernard's seminary for the killer who lured the 17 year old to her death.
Fire destroyed or damaged most buildings in an area bounded by Eighty fifth to Eighty-sixth streets and Buffalo to Superior avenues in South Chicago. Seven buildings burned, many others damaged, with losses around 180000 dollars. Seven injured and one man Vincent Krakowski arrested on incendiary charges after a quarrel with boarding house keeper Mrs Serfranki.
Joseph Flora of 618 Porter Street was charged with larceny after bicycle policemen traced stolen chickens to his gang. A chase through the countryside ended with Flora and the birds seized nine miles NW of the city. Farmers did not appear in court to prosecute.
Augustus Christian and Marcellus Dawson, refused retail liquor licenses in Washington township, prepare appeals to circuit court from Marion county commissioners' decision. Refusals stemmed from a remonstrance. Saloons planned for Broad Ripple and the Allisonville pike, showing local licensing dispute.
