Dull Court Week Sees Tax Collection Praised and Court Adjourns

The September term led by Judge White praised constables for last year tax collection with Oct 15 deadline for duplicates to recover delinquents. Grand jury foreman A W Kimmell named. Several indictments, including rape and seduction cases, are expected to occupy hearings. no court next week due to fair account.

Old Pennsylvania Canal Boatmen's Reunion Held at Livermore

The 17th annual reunion of the Old Pennsylvania Canal Boatmen's Association met in Livermore on Touraday with about 240 members. Some 160 veterans attended though most are around eighty. thirteen members died in the last year. Attendees included William Shields, William McElhaney, Albert Wagle, James S. McAnulty, and Capt. Wm. Shields of Rayne township.

Token of Esteem for John Caldwell Watch Gift

Johnstown friends presented Mr. John Br. Caldwell a gold hunting case watch engraved with his monogram and bearing a diamond. The Berwind-White Coal Mining Company purchasing agent received the gift from company officials as thanks for years of business and social ties. Attorney Herman E. Baumer gave the presentation speech, and Caldwell replied with an address.

Found Dead by His Engine at Coke Crusher No 2

John Bittner a Blav employed in the engine house at coke crusher No 2 Graceton was killed last Saturday while oiling the engine his clothes caught in the coupling shaft and he was hurled to a death his body mangled his skull crushed and clothing stripped aged about 35 his wife and two children remain in his native country interment was in the Catholic cemetery Sabbath.

Amputation After Train Accident Near Bolivar

James Hoggarty of Bolivar was injured while crossing a moving freight train and had his left leg amputated at Cambria hospital with Dr. H C Updegraff assisting. A harvest home picnic followed in Hart's woods near West Lebanon with socially active residents from Elders Ridge Clarksburg and West Lebanon gathering about 800 people.

Big Indiana county fair promises record crowds

The Indiana county fair will run next week with Track events as a lead feature and eight races. Excursion rates from Greenaburg Johnstown Butler and Kittanning, special trains at 5 15 p m Thursday and Friday connect with main lines. Reed band from Johnstown and Plumville cornet band visit, with balloon ascensions and parachute Europe. A big stock show and other exhibits are planned, drawing delegations from Butler Kittanning Greensburg and Punxsutawney. Prominent September wedding to follow at night.

Merchants' Delightful Idlewild Outing Inspires Big Turnout

Merchants enjoyed a sunny picnic at Idlewild with about 1,000 attendees from Homer City Graceton and nearby areas. Two special trains carried 12 coaches each, a Derry club versus Indians team game ended 7 to 4 in favor of Indiana, and shops closed for a statewide slowdown. The Blairsville district Women’s Foreign Missionary Societies to meet at 2 pm with Pittsburgh speakers, the event running into evening.

Roof and Kline report sale of Luther Roof property on Grant Street to the Gailey sisters of Willet for 1350 dollars. They also sold the Mrs Lizzie Lafferty property on South Seventh Street to Michael Faith for 1050 dollars.

Good Oats Crop Report and Station Fire Incident

William Campbell of Armstrong township harvested a large oats crop yielding 69 bushels per acre. R E Harbison nearby gathered 55 bushels from a half acre. A carboy of sulphuric acid for the Normal school laboratory broke in a box car at the station, damaging some goods before the fire was extinguished.

County Christian Endeavor Union Great Rally in Indiana County

Indiana County hosted the 15th annual Christian Endeavor Union convention at the Presbyterian church with over 50 societies and 2,000 members. Sessions featured Rev. J. W. Shaeffer, addresses by Rev. C. F. Sanders and Rev. John D. Bicks, a junior program, and a closing program with music by a town-wide quartet. Delegates numbered 105 and lodging and meals were provided. next year’s gathering is planned at Carry Run church near Shelocta.

More Coal Ordered Up West of Town

About 2 000 additional acres in the coal field east of town under Ma Henry leases are being examined with 7 000 acres in total. Deeds will be in favor of W D Bigler as abstracting finishes and landowners receive initial payments next week. First payments so far include John Gibson 64 acres for 1 607.49 and Levi Houck 107 acres for 1 880.83.

Neck Broken in a Fall at Robinson

George Fisher of Robinson county was killed Saturday night when he fell from an embankment at the end of the bridge over the Conemaugh river. His neck was broken and he died before help arrived. A separate report notes Perry Grambling of Huff county was slashed by a showman while at New Florence, requiring 18 stitches. A Brushvalley Township man reports a calf born without a tail.

Frightful Injuries In Accident Injure Creekside Man

George Cravener of Creekside suffered severe injuries when a wagon wheel broke on a steep hill near Advance. He sustained compound fractures to the left jaw and right jaw, severe facial wounds, and near-severed ears. He was taken to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. condition described as serious but improving. Council considers cement walks and sewerage plan review by expert G Everett Hill. Also notes Sutton Finde clothing stores expansion and birth and oil well news.
