Indiana County Receives Gift for New Hospital
A $141,000 hospital building and equipment gift from Adrian Iselin Jr and sister Georgine Iselin of New York City will be presented to Indiana County. The ceremony Thursday afternoon will unveil the donation, with presentation by W Robingoh and acceptance by Justice John P Elkin. The facility opens November 1, offering care for charity and paying patients alike, and a press tour and guiding volunteers will accompany the guests. Board officers named at the Monday meeting include President John P Di Kin, Vice President John S Fisher, Secretary J Wood Clark, and Treasurer Tom B Hildebrand.

Woman Narrowly Escapes Fire While Making Apple Butter
Plumville resident Miss Milen Cessna narrowly escaped death when her clothing caught fire from flames under a kettle while making apple butter in the yard. Family members quickly extinguished the flames, saving her life despite serious burns. Reports also note a link drawn between diphtheria and chestnut crops, with several diphtheria cases in Indiana as the chestnut harvest is unusually large this year. Big corn yield reported by Ward B Learn, formerly of Green township, now near Greensburg, who harvested 1683 bushels from nine acres.

Mail and parcel totals reported at local post office
Nearly a thousand pieces of mail passed a four day period in October with strict daily records kept. In the 13 working days from October 1 to 15, 3 863 parcels weighing nearly two tong were sent out at $123 in postage. Over 8 800 pieces of parcel post were received for delivery with 1 557 distributed through boxes and general delivery, 5 205 by regular carriers, 1 14 by rural carriers, 890 by extra parcel post carrier, and six by special delivery. The total pieces handed were 12 165, averaging nearly 1 000 daily. Three Members of Family Four in the Hospital Mrs Elmer Campbell and two children Helen and Joe Campbell are patients in Indiana hospital. Mrs Campbell underwent an operation. her children suffer from stomaine poisoning. Mr Campbell is home alone. George Giles visits West Virginia.

Young men serving terms may gain parole from murder cases
Emanuel Betts of West Wheatfield and Joseph Morgan of Newrytown, both jailed for murder, may be released within two months after the State Board of Parson approvals. Betts was convicted of second degree murder in the November 4, 1907 killing of Wilbur Kline near Germany. Morgan is jailed for the same incident amid jealousy rumors.

Thieves active in city steal from church and store
Thieves are active in Indiana during the past week. A small amount of currency was taken from a contribution box at St Bernard's Roman Catholic church and nothing of value was found in the parish house. At St Clair Reform & Company feed store in West Whitner street thieves entered the office, stole notes from the safe, the gate protecting papers was unlocked, and the notes remain unendorsed and worthless to the thief. Government work shifts to Orville J Shirley in Salt Lake City as he joins the General Land Office. He previously served five years in Washington, studied law at night, graduated from Georgetown College Law, passed the DC bar, and now is a lawyer after Indiana Normal school training.
