The county treasurer reports a rapid tax intake over the past three weeks with $40,517.54 in county and special taxes collected so far this year plus $1,125 in additional taxes. Outstanding totals run to $6,823.74 in county and $1,498.25 in other taxes. Duplicates will be turned over to constables for collection with a 60 day payment deadline. last year nearly twice this amount remained unpaid. This evidence points to a prosperous county.
Grading Work Expands on Buffalo Rochester & Pittsburg Route
Work has begun on the Buffalo Rochester and Pittsburg railroad bed near Homer City with A P Baker of Blacklick leading a six mile grading contract between Homer City and Bells Mills. A large Pennsylvania Railroad crew is grading along Blacklick creek and about 100 men are employed near Buena Vista furnace with ties laid west of Webrum.
