Roosevelt Shot At Milwaukee Campaign Stop
Theodore Roosevelt was shot in the chest by an assailant named Schrank in Milwaukee as he began an address from his hotel. The bullet lodged in his right breast but did not stop the ex president, who finished his speech before being rushed to a hospital. Schrank, described as insane, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to kill and was overpowered by Roosevelt’s stenographer before firing again. The campaign unit suspended further active campaigning for Roosevelt as doctors ordered rest.

Reunions Mark Saltsburg Veterans Visit Grave of Captain Gordon
Survivors of Company D 206th Regiment P V and veterans from other commands gathered in Saltsburg on Saturday. After dinner at the hotel a business meeting elected J A Lington DuBois vice president J M Marshall Indiana secretary and J W Harbison architect treasurer. The roll call counted 72 dead 28 living and four unaccounted for. Next reunion will be in Indiana on October 12 1913. Afternoon visitors paid respects at the grave of late Captain Wil C Gordon in Saltsburg. First Institute Success Teachers of Green Township held the first institute at Mumma Ue Dachoo schoolhouse with well attended sessions on education. An excellent noon dinner was provided by patrons. Pupils’ exercises under Budd Houck added interest. Mr B K Ankeny White Town exhibited a large yellow Pippin apple weighing 1 pound 2 ounces and 14 inches in diameter. An entertainment is planned to raise funds for the school with pies and soda.

Mrs Neel, educated in Indiana, taught before serving as instructor at a Girls Boarding School in Asheville. Neel works for Garland Nut and Rivet Co in Pittsburgh. A third couple, Chas A Rippert and Miss Eliza J Pollack, married at the bride’s mother’s home with Rev W S Sturgeon presiding, then shared a wedding dinner and a trip planned for the day.
