Josephine Woman Awarded Heavy Damages in Suit

A Josephine woman received a verdict of 6410.06 for injuries to her husband in a case against Saltsburg Coal Mining Company with three cases settled. Other civil actions across Cambria County involve damages, lawsuits, and settlements among coal firms, lumber contracts, and rail interests.

Move On Foot for a Market Place at Indiana

Discussion at the Indiana Chamber of Commerce last week considered establishing a central curb market to sell farm produce, reducing house to house sales. Elders Ridge Academy Opens Season With Victory

Elders Ridge Academy opened the basketball season by defeating West Lebanon 25 to 9. Hod earned two field goals for the six footer from Clarksburg, with Rosensteen Lowman and Shearer among the scorers. Patterson hit three of six free throws. Separate items note Indiana girl Mise Marie Woodward leaving for 11 years of Bible mission work in China, plus teachers Miles and Miss Laney, and a Columbus Day dance by Indiana Council Knights of Columbus. A postoffice named McIntyre is established at Young township's coal town Jacksonville.

Annual Conventions Highlight Indiana Baptists and Christians

The Indiana Baptist Association held its thirty sixth anniversary convention at Wintondale with plans for Glen Campbell in October 1913. Officers elected include moderator Rev Charles F Carll Indiana clerk Rev H F King and treasurer Hamond Widdowson. Women's Missionary Society officers also named. Home City hosted the Indiana County Christian Endeavor Union with notes on county society pledges, attendances, and ongoing projects. The Christian Endeavor efficiency movement sees limited adoption, and several churches reported giving to church and mission causes, including Blairsville Presbyterians pledging 1500 for a pipe organ. Next year’s silver anniversary convention set for Indiana. Disciples of Christ meet in Clymer Oct 4–6 with officers elected for the year.

Gun Ulur Shoot Tomorrow at Local Farm

The Indiana Red and Gun Club hosts its second annual trap tournament at the J. M. Hileman farm tomorrow morning. Ten 15-target events welcome all. $3 entry funds cash prizes divided into four classes A through D. Shooting starts at 9:08 with Sheila and lunch available at the grounds. The club, member of the Central Pennsylvania Trappers and Shooters League, expects large attendance.

Indians Girl Will Wed Homer City Young Man This Fall

The engagement of Miss Winona Lillian Churchill to Ralph Jamison McConaaughey of Homer City was announced at the Churchill home. An early fall wedding is planned though not yet set. Mr McGovern is critically ill at Punxsutawney Hospital following a recent accident.

Longtime Indiana resident Anna Dick Wilson dies

Obituary notes the death on October 2 of Anna Dick Wilson at her Church street home aged about 78. She was born May 6, 1838, married to Andrew Wilson in 1863, mother of ten, and active in church, charity and temperance work. Funeral Friday at her home, Rev. Man Bitten by Rabid Dog Near South Thirteenth Street

A large gray and tan bull dog attacked J B Lewis on his way to a marble shop on South Thirteenth street. Lewis was bitten on the right arm and leg, seized the dog by the ears, and a bystander killed it with a crowbar. He is en route to Pittsburgh for Pasteur treatment. The dog’s head was sent for rabies testing. initial signs indicate possible hydrophobia. Nearby livestock and dogs are being watched as residents fear further attacks. The dog matches descriptions of the James bull flag deterring. neighbors report a county-wide worry.

New Century Club Resumes Gigod Program Opening Meeting

The New Century Club met Monday October 7 at 3:00 in the club rooms with Miss Amanda Renard performing two songs. Mrs H Christy reported on the Southwestern District meeting in Pittsburgh September 27 and delegates were chosen to the State Federation of Pennsylvania Women to meet October 16 and 17 in Williamsport. New members were deferred to the October 21 gathering at 2:40.
