Indiana County Directors Institute Meets December Program Planned

County Superintendent James F. Chapman completes plans for the fifty ninth Indiana County Teachers Institute and nineteenth Directors Association convention set for December 19 to 23. The Institute Record with the schedule and instructor list was mailed. detailed program to be printed in the Progress next week. Day instructors include Reed Teitrick, Frank Willis, O L Warren, Henry Houck, Charles Dobson, and Mabel McCreight. Officers named J M Ansley, John Rosa, S M Miller, Co M Lockard, and James Simpson. The program covers sessions on industry, thrift, citizenry, and school efficiency with medical supervision and director duties.

Fatally Injured Man Makes Dying Statement

Local reports state Charles Conte shot at Whiskey Run mines by Mrs Virginia Calogebro on November 8 remains in Adrian hospital. He shows no change in condition and is not expected to survive, with a dying statement recounting the alleged motive and event.

Justice Elkin for United States Senator

State Senator Sproul of Delaware county backs a move to elect Justice John P. Elkin as United States Senator replacing George T. Oliver of Pittsburgh. Congressman Criest of Lanthorncaster County is said to favor Elkin. Elkin declines to speak, saying he is too busy with judicial duties to consider politics.

New Century Club Entertainment Boosts Reading Room Fund

The New Century Club held its bi monthly meeting with piano solo Misa Cogswell’s Bereeuse by Chopin. Finance chair Misa Katherine McLaughlin reported $111 raised for Thanksgiving entertainment, leaving about $75 for the Free Reading Room fund after bills. The calendar saw changes with December events adjusted to December 12 and 26, including an Educational Committee program and a Literature Class session at 3:00 PM in the club room.

Better Fire Apparatus for Indiana Fire Association

Four small fire extinguishers are purchased by the Indiana Fire Association for emergency use. One extinguisher will be placed in each of the four engine houses to rush to fires before heavier equipment arrives, aiming to save property by small fires with minimal water.

Hunters bag big game in wilds at Clinton County

Clinton County hunting yields two deer and three bears bagged by two Elkin men T Hamilton and George Lemmon. They have tallied nine bears and three deer in three years. A 264 pound dressed deer with seven prongs was among the catch. Other local hunters from Plumville Indiana County and Kenwood reported deer and bears in Clearfield and surrounding counties.

Rev Harper May Accept Unanimous Call in Brooklyn

Rev E H Harper rector of Christ Episcopal church Indiana may accept a unanimous call from All Saints Episcopal church in Brooklyn and begin duties soon. He has served here about two years and gained popularity in the county. He was married to Miss Anna G Lidford of Brooklyn in April and spent the summer in San Francisco.

Injured Lumberman Hurt in Somerset County Woods

Edward Williams of town, a lumberman in Somerset county, was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when his left leg was crushed between two heavy timbers while moving logs with a crew. He was brought home Sunday evening for care. Blind stenographer Mary Hayes earns praise in Pittsburg

Mary Hayes, a totally blind former resident now in Pittsburg, works as a stenographer for Charles F. Weller during a health conference session. She types from phonographic dictation with flawless copy, needing only the page aligned. Hayes trained at the Pennsylvania Institution for the Blind in Bellefield after being taken there at about age ten.

Blairsville pastor Rev W L Barrett has hired attorneys to defend against a libel charge filed by Gov-elect John K Toner. Thanksgiving Day Family Reunions Across Indiana
