First Cement Block Dwelling Erected in Indiana
A Tilina Indiana home on South Seventh street, built entirely of cement blocks, is noted as the town’s first cement block dwelling. The 40 by 40 foot residence, made by Indiana Concrete and Construction, features a hip roof, bricklike cement walls, slate roof, hot water heat, electricity, and a large 84 by 10 foot porch. A cement block barn, 30 feet square, with electric lighting and hydrant water, accompanies the property. The four story-like structure includes extensive basement, reception areas, gymnasium, and side and rear porches, showcasing modern design and convenience.

A Hellwood boarding house by John Davis was destroyed by fire on a Tuesday forenoon, burning goods for 40 boarders. Fire blamed on overheated stove. Davis had just taken charge days earlier.
