A large Republican gathering of Mahoning County delegates filled streets with banners as crowds of 6 000 to 10 000 watched a daylong parade. Delegations from South and West Mahoning and nearby townships arrived at Library Hall for speeches by Major I McFarland and Major T D Cunningham.
A large Republican rally filled Library Hall and Court House with crowds attracted by a day of band music, fireworks, and speeches. Delegations from multiple towns marched along illuminated streets led by Chief Marshal Hood. Glee clubs from Leechburg Covode and Elkin performed patriotic songs. Speakers included Perkins, Stone, Swope, and McDowell. The event concluded with strong praise for the party’s campaign effort.
Constable Jacob Wettling brought Benjamin C. Barber to jail from near Jennings Ran after a Miss Florence Bryan of Rayne township accused him of fathering her illegitimate child and attempting a criminal operation. Multiple illnesses reported in Grip, Cambria County with typhoid fever and diphtheria. Abs Lottie Lute critically ill from typhoid. J W Lute improving after prostration. Three Gardner family members near Barnesboro also afflicted.
A blaze in Saltsburg destroyed a lumber pile in the basement of S. M. Keibler’s residence on Sabbath. The cellar suffered considerable damage before discovery, but quick action saved the home and its beauty in the town.
An original pension was granted Mrs. Cordelia Altimus widow of the late Nicholas Altimus a member of Co F 206th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry of Glen Glade Cambria county The pension was secured through the agency of Frank Donahugh of this place.
County commissioners paid sheep damage claims in the past week totaling several dollars to residents S R Walback of West Wheatfield township eight dollars forty cents Josiah Gibson Green township ten dollars John T Smith Blacklick township and Salomon Fulmer Rayne township with a final amount of fifty cents in disputes unresolved.
Mr. George Bodenhammer of Sixth Street is dangerously ill after months of paralysis. He suffered a relapse this week and now remains in critical condition.
