Indiana County education convention votes salary raise
At the county school directors convention in Indiana County the salary of the county superintendent was raised from 1600 to 2000 per year by an 84 to 81 vote after a close ballot. J. T. Stewart was elected to a new term as county superintendent. He thanked the directors for their support as the convention adjourned.

The will of the late John Vanier of East Mahoning township directs all personal property and real estate to be sold to provide a livelihood for his widow from sale receipts. Upon her death or remarriage, the proceeds go to his grandchildren from his son Joseph and daughter Jane. One third goes to son Ulysses W. Vanleer. Grandsons John Vanleer and John V. Walker receive $100 each in addition to other bequests. James M. Walker named executor. Dated February 5, 1887.

Fire destroys Tanoma general store and postoffice
A blaze Monday night swept the Tanoma general store owned by J H Myers and Lemuel Heilman, with the telephone and postoffice housed in the storeroom. Most merchandise was burned. The fire began in the upper story and the origin remains unknown. The building, owned by James Buchanan, carried a small insurance on property and stock. Also noted is Royden J. Taylor being named a captain of the surveying corps at Corasll University, reflecting honors for top civil engineering students.

Weddings of a Week Showcases Two Local Marriages
A home wedding at Mrs. Hannah Walker’s residence in west Church Street joined Alice Walker to Harry W. Ferrier of Vandergrift with Rev. A. J. Farman officiating. About 40 guests attended as attendants included Miss Ida Walker and Mr. Joseph Byerly. The bride wore satin trim and carried white carnations. The couple will establish a home in Vandergrift soon. Clarence Cost and Miss Dalla Fleming of town wed in Greensburg with the bride’s family noted. The groom, once a local photographer, now works in Greensburg. They have begun housekeeping there.

The class of 22 will graduate in Library Hall next Wednesday at 7 30 PM. The program lists more than two dozen recitations, orations, songs, and a debate. A nine year old son of Henry Pissemeyer of Blaireville accidentally shot his eight year old brother Saturday evening. They were alone upstairs when a revolver fired. The younger boy's condition is critical and may prove fatal.
