The Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburg Railway begins regular passenger service on the Indiana Branch with a 9:10 AM arrival in Punxsutawney’s county seat. Gas price rise planned by Indiana County Gas Company
At a stockholders meeting the Indiana County Gas Company voted to raise the rate to 27 cents per thousand feet with a 2 cent discount for payment within ten days. The net price becomes 25 cents per thousand feet, an increase of five cents. The new rate takes effect May 23 due to higher material costs and maintenance needs.

New Century Club Promotes Clean Town Initiatives
The New Century Club of Philadelphia, a patriotic women’s group, places garbage boxes for waste paper to keep streets clean. Presbyterian Church to Build New House of Worship
The Presbyterian congregation voted to authorize the building committee to contract for a new church at an estimated total of 55,000 for the structure. The project excludes windows seats and heating. total cost may reach 61,000. The Mummerstown brown stone building will feature a green tile roof and spire with 800 seats in the main auditorium and 200 in balconies, plus 140 in the infant class room and 600 in the Sabbath school section. The basement social room will be 40 by 64 feet and the kitchen 20 by 35 feet.

Work begins on grading an extension of the Pennsylvania railroad from Hines above Mitchells Mills toward Possum Glory and Yellow Creek. A. Foreigners in Trouble Over Liquor Licenses Raids Near Glass Works
Foreigners were arrested for selling liquor without a license after a raid on a speakeasy near the glass works south of town. Constable Wettling and armed citizens recovered a keg, with two men named Frank Sciletta and David Morecona taken into custody. They forfeited 800 dollars each for hearings before Squire Crossman but failed to appear. A Graceton man, Barto Zolduck, was jailed for selling without license, forfeiting 300 dollars. Frank Shank of Cherryhill pleaded guilty to profane language and paid the fine and costs.

Mrs. Ted Roberts of town was taken to Dixmont Insane Asylum Monday morning after becoming mentally deranged several days earlier. She grew so violent on Friday that she was confined in the county jail.

Open Switch Near Twolick Averted Passenger Train Wreck
Friday evening a passenger train approaching Bhursville Intersection encountered an open switch north of Twolick. Engineer Albert Wagle halted the train at 20 mph, preventing a serious derailment as the engine left the track and struck a bank. A freight engine then moved the train to Blairaville Intersection for the return trip. Two local boys are suspected of opening the switch. the railroad company investigates. Man Ended Life in Homer City Stable Tragedy
James Frederick a Homer City liveryman aged around 35 died after shooting himself in front of his Jim Street stable. He had been in good spirits earlier, left a wife and two children, and had recently been drinking. He died at home shortly after convulsing in front of bystanders. The incident prompted reports from Drs Weamer and Dickie and led to funeral plans in Johnstown.

Town Council Fixes Tax Rate and Police Staffing
At the monthly meeting the council set thirteen mills for next year divided as ten to the general fund and three to the sinking fund, a three mill cut from last year offset by higher property values. A new policeman was to be hired with Officer Kallav Harris, and lighting at Fifth and Chestnut streets was ordered. Petitions for new streets were referred to committees.
