One Killed In Wreck On New Halls Road
Sherman Thayer an extra engineer for the Pittsburg division of the Buffalo Rochester and Pittsburg railway was killed in a head on collision on the curve above the goal tipple on Saturday evening about 6 pm. Fireman John Quinor jumped to safety and escaped injury as the engine and a freight car were badly damaged. Thayer 35 and married resided in Butler. Remains sent to Punxsutawney and then to Butler. Other crew members uninjured.

John Kanya, employed at Strangford in Burrell township, was jailed Monday on a shooting charge following a fracas Saturday night at Strangford. He says four Italians assaulted him. he fired in self defense injuring Mike Ellis, shot in the mouth, and Joe Ellis, shot through the right lung. Both men, said to be serious but expected to recover, were involved after a long standing dispute.

New Indiana Branch Train Connects with West Penn Lines
A new passenger train on the Indiana Branch will run May 30 connecting with through and accommodation trains on the main line and with West Penn services at Blairsville. It departs Indiana at 12 20 p.m. and reaches Blairsville Intersection 1 10 p.m. It then goes to Blairsville at 4 10 p.m. and connects with the midday eastbound express to Philadelphia arriving 9 28 p.m. It also links with the Blairsville Express westbound to Pittsburgh. The schedule lists connections with West Penn trains No 8 east and No 9 west and notes overall travel times between Pittsburg and Philadelphia about nine hours eight minutes. The service aims to aid half day trips to the east or west.
