Mr and Mrs Robert Carson of Homer City celebrated their fiftieth year with an informal Main Street reception. The couple born in 1835 and 1843 respectively have ten children eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren, thriving health and active trades noted. Saltsburg Woman Celebrates 104th Birthday
Mrs. Martha Forsha Wiley, possibly western Pennsylvania’s oldest woman, marked her 104th birthday in Saltsburg with calls from friends at her daughter Mrs. William J. Fennell’s home. An informal musical program and family dinner followed. she reads the Bible daily and recalls early American history. She has eight children, two surviving.

Mystery arson arrest in Blacklick shoe shop blaze
Jim Volangelo of Blacklick was arrested on arson charges after a Thursday night fire at his shoe shop. Smoke issued from the building, an oil soaked keg of shavings burned beneath the floor, and a trail of oil led investigators to a key near the rear of the shop. Solomon Handley helped extinguish the flames before Colangelo was captured by Constable Grant Ramey.

Child Burned When Clothes Catch Fire at Home
A two year old girl of Mr and Mrs Ross Campbell of Shelocta was badly burned after clothes caught fire before an open grate. The mother, hearing cries, rescued the child and removed burning clothing before inhalation occurred. The face was badly burned and hair burned off. At a brief Monday session Judge Telford sentenced several defendants from prior sessions. J G Brink, who pleaded guilty to bribery as a juror for the Pennsylvania Railroad case, fined $500 plus imprisonment 1-5 years. Emma Palmer, aggravated assault, fined $100 and two years in Hoboken workhouse. Charles Pak met, fornication, deemed lightly punished with $100 fine. Benjamin Trout certified to Juvenile Court for assault with a pickaxe. Michael Harrington, Ernest, fined and one year in workhouse for assault and battery, later to face desertion and non-support. Mike and Mary Leone acquitted on liquor charges to pay costs. Spencer acquitted of larceny but costs split. Joe Morea case, two-thirds costs on prosecutor. Hert Spencer fined $6 for stable-keepers law violation. Leonard Scanta acquitted on liquor sale. Kooger Logan Kunkle found guilty of fornication and bastardy. Myrtle June, mute prosecutrix, noted.
