In 1914 aboard the Jersey Belle a captain recalls meeting a one eyed old man offering crabapple cider. George Washington Bangs drinks the brew and falls gravely ill. Sailors suspect the cider’s deadly effect, and Bangs is soon dismissed for drunkenness as the captain notes the strange encounter.
