Indictments Placed Before Grand Jury At County Court
The term opened Monday as constables reported bad county roads. Foreman W M Streams led the grand jury which will hear indictments against numerous defendants for crimes including larceny assault and battery riot illegal liquor selling fornication and bastardy murder and other charges. Civil verdicts noted include 128.50 to Ww H Clawson and 304.89 to Blairsville Machine Works. many trials postponed to June 15 due to G A R encampment nearby.

Memorial Day crash at Marion Center involved a car driven by Dr. John Stewart colliding with John Russell’s vehicle. Russell’s car overturned leaving James A White with a broken shoulder blade and Quay Raughter cut hand from glass. Elders Ridge Academy 75th anniversary events set
Elders Ridge Academy at Riders Ridge marks its seventy fifth anniversary with commencement on June 25. The program includes Literary Society reunions at 3 8 p m and a 10 30 a m commencement with a luncheon at noon and an alumni gathering in the afternoon. Class Day is scheduled for June 24 evening. Proceeds from the luncheon at 50 cents a plate go to the academy. An alumni and friends invitation is extended. Also note farmers institutes meeting set for June 9 to plan the next series in the county.

Fire destroys Coleman barn at Smicksburg. man burned
W. B. Coleman’s farm at Smicksburg suffered a large blaze early yesterday destroying a barn and killing six head of young cattle. Wesley Coleman was severely burned trying to save stock as flames swept through the structure. Insurance covered about 1800 of the estimated 5000 dollar loss, with oats wheat corn hay and farm machinery also destroyed. The fire’s incendiary origin is suspected.
