A long court docket lists guardianships probate sales and audits plus criminal and civil actions. It notes adoptions granted, estates settled, real estate sales ordered, and various judges and auditors handling accounts, with many names including Alexander White, Margaret Miller, and J.A. Johnston among others.
County Superintendent Hammers has examined 202 applicants, a strong turnout for the season. Examinations were held in Greenville and Cookport with no special course requirements beyond broad subject knowledge. Today he meets students at Gettysburg, with two more tests planned in Smithport and Trade City later this week.
Mr Wilson Kinter a Dixonville carpenter narrowly escaped fatal injuries after a scaffold failed at a coal tipple in Glen Camp Well Friday. He fell about thirty feet dislocating his left shoulder and suffering additional injuries. He was taken home Saturday and expects recovery if there are no internal injuries.
Company F N G P scored well at the spring inspection with a general average that places them first in the Fifth regiment and a standing of 40.94 percent. The readable report highlights strong performance and competitive standing within the unit.
Leshé Dattison of Johnstown and Cunie Adella Honk of Purchase Line wed at the bride’s parents home on Wednesday noon. Rev. W. Ile officiated before about 25 guests in a rhododendron decorated parlor. The bridal party included Frank Moorhenal and Lottie Houk. Bride in white, groom in black. Guests enjoyed dinner before the couple departed for their home.
Mr. Charles C. Whaler of Rayne township and Miss Florence B. Craig wed at the bride’s parents home in Rayne township. Rev. John Tom officiated at Grave Chapel Luther Hootsiyadew. The couple received many friends and a reception followed a delicious supper.
Mr iarry B. McMillan of Dixonville and Miss Sadie J. Leasuire were united in marriage at the bride’s parents home, Grant Township, Wednesday at noon, officiated by Rev J F Coss. Attendants were Mr B M Newpher of Deckers Point and Miss Manner of Grant Township. About 10 guests attended and a dinner of gon things followed.
Mr. G. M. Hill and Miss Margaret J. Iseman of White township were married at the bride’s parents home, Mr. and Mrs. John Isemen, by Rev. Lewis Hay. About ten friends witnessed the ceremony.
Roy Laughlin and Helen Scott of Marion Center were married Friday evening at the officiating minister Rev. Foresman home in Marion Center. The ceremony was intimate and surprised the couple’s closest friends.
Mr A B Means of Walier in Jefferson county and Miss Alice Nichol of North Mahoning township wed at the Lutheran parsonage. The ceremony was conducted by Rev Lewis Hay on Wednesday July 1.
Mr. Charles F. Hoffman of Buffington township and Miss Minnie Reese of Blacklick township Cambria county were married in Ebensburg Saturday by Rev. Hunt. The couple’s union was announced with customary parish ceremony and local region residents attended.
Commissioner Adam Black and his wife marked their 30th wedding anniversary with about 30 friends gathering at their home. Guests included Rev. Ehrenfeld and Rev. Shaefler, Deputy Auditor Elkin, Prothonotary Peeler, and multiple local residents, all enjoyed a noon dinner and several collective addresses.

Mrs James McLeister and her daughter of near Taylorsville were returning from Dixonville in a buggy when their horse ran out of control and crashed into a second buggy occupied by Mrs John Donahue. Both vehicles were badly demolished but the ladies escaped serious injury though bruised and bruised. McLeister’s horse detached and returned home to the barn.
Mr A E Fleming of this place married Miss Bertha Crissman of White township on Thursday at the M E parsonage with Rev Sweeny officiating.
Mr. G. W. Hart and Miss Annie Mike, both of Blairsville, were married at the M. E. parsonage by Rev. Sweeny on Thursday.
Homer City school directors elected teachers on Monday. Winners include H. V. Rowan principal room 4 wage 55 dollars, George M. Allison room 3 wage 32.50, Miss Cora G. Black local No. 25, and Miss Lola B. Lewis Ambrose No. 1. Teachers in rooms 1 and 2 receive 30 dollars.
The German Lutheran church at Fifth and Water streets has been bought by the Disciples for 1200 dollars. It will be remodeled over the summer into a house of worship with a baptistry. The 50 resident members expect growth with a minister and formal dedication as The Christian Chapel.
Charles Robinson accidentally shot John Hall in the right leg during a Saturday picnic at Germany M. E. church in West Wheatfield township. Dr. Lafferty of New Florence was called but could not locate the bullet. The two boys were handling a revolver when the discharge occurred.
Thieves entered the house of Albert Walback in West Wheatfield township while the family was away and took a suit of clothes, pins, and other items. Mr. Walback offers a $20 reward for the apprehension of the thieves.
The annual vacation of attorneys starts next Monday and lasts three weeks. No court sessions will be held and no attorney will handle matters requiring another attorney's attention during this period.
The Normal faculty have departed for a summer outing. Prof. Chambers attends a postgraduate course at Cornell University. Miss Sarah Gallaher is at the University at Philadelphia. Miss Leonard vacations at DuBois. Mr. A. F. Carter visits West Virginia. M. C. Gordon left for Fulton county. Mrs. Waller and family depart for Atlantic City. Miss Mawson travels to Providence Rhode Island.
The Johnstown school board elected teachers for the upcoming term. Several applicants from Indiana secured positions, including Miss Margaret H. Smith, Miss Nell Goodell, and Miss Margaret Adair, all from Johnstown.
Deputy Attorney General Elkin notified State Superintendent of Schools Sheaffer that all those under 17 graduating from State Normal schools are not entitled to the $50 appropriation.
Mrs. M. S. Crawford and her family of East Mahoning township were returning from church when a wagon came close to an edge on a narrow road. The team passed, the wagon enbanked, and occupants were thrown over the bank. They escaped with severe bruises and no broken bones.
In Armstrong township over 200 friends and neighbors visited Mr. Thomas Wachob at Parkwood on Saturday unannounced. While the host was away, guests planned the surprise, shared a noon barn-floor feast, and formed an organization. Rev E B Littell presented Mr. and Mrs. Wachob with two oak rockers, with thanks offered by James T. Henry and Archie McAdoo.
The Fourth Pentecostal Camp Meeting in Ridgeview Park Pa under Rev Joseph H Smith and a team of ministers runs July 17 to 26 with singing by Prof J P Hillis. Mr H C Waudby once of Kellysburg and East Liverpool returns home after ten months away in Canada and sickly, offering no explanation for his absence. His wife, a Kooser by birth, awaits fuller details, as East Liverpool papers note his healthy appearance and withheld story.
Miss May Clements hosted a pleasant reception at her home on Wednesday evening for visiting friends. Friday Miss Bess Hamilton invited guests to meet guest Miss Edna Davis from Carnegie. Miss Erma Cunningham entertained the T I C s on Saturday. Miss Myrtle Sweeny on Thursday hosted a reception for her friend Miss Jessie Green of Altoona. Tuesday marks Miss Margaret Hildebrand's birthday with 50 friends invited to her White township home.
George Feit Boyd Ewing and Alex S Mabon completed examinations for practicing law and were formally admitted to the bar on Monday. Feit and Ewing formed a partnership and opened offices in Farmers Bank building rooms 16 and 17. After August 1 Ewing will move to Blairsville Feit stays here Mabon remains with Cunningham Fisher until a room is secured. The Proc Ress offers congratulations and wishes them patronage.
A barn owned by H. J. Thompson at Deckers Point was struck by lightning on Saturday evening and burned to ashes. The barn’s contents were recovered except for a small amount of oats and hay. Two boys were playing inside but felt no shock, while nearby family members were knocked from their feet by the bolt.
County Superintendent delivered illustrated lectures to the Chautauqua assembly at Clarion for two nights last week and spoke Friday night at Marchand.
Grisemore school ends the summer session with a Friday picnic. Sab bath school plans to join that day for a jointly pleasant outing, promising a cheerful event for participants.
A murder darkens Vandergrift along the West Penn after a drunken scuffle last Saturday night left a man named Lang dead. Italian locals involved, authorities report a violent clash that ended in a fatal stabbing or beating.
Mr J L Orr of Third ward injured Monday afternoon when his right foot was caught between timbers at the lumber yard. No bones were broken but the foot was badly bruised.
Mr Nicholas Hoffman of White township was thrown from his wagon on Thursday and sustained severe bruises about the neck in a roadway accident.
On Saturday Harry Lear of Green township lost fifty dollars at Cockport while celebrating the Fourth. The money consisted of two twenties and a ten. Lear offers a suitable reward for its return. The old company reunion is set for Marion Center on August 31 with a call to comrades for a lively gathering.
Railroad detective Coulterbaugh from Blairsville jailed John Clark for 20 days after arrest on Friday for train jumping.
The People's Christian Union of the United Presbyterian church will hold a lawn fete on Thursday evening. Local organizers invite families and neighbors to attend for activities and refreshments at the church grounds.
Sudden death befalls 76 year old John Hess of Brushvalley township while returning from Mechanicsburg where he sought medical help. He died on his horse from heart disease after a brief illness and is survived by his wife and two children John and Mary. His funeral was held at the Evangelical church in Mechanicsburg where he was buried on Saturday.
Joseph Francis Barnes died at his east Philadelphia street home on Sabbath eve around six o'clock after a 10 month illness from chronic stomach cancer. Born March 4 1828 near Kinksville he trained as a printer in Pittsburg where he met Mary McClarren. they married June 3 1850. He lived in Blairsville 30 years, ran a buckster business, later supplied oil to merchants and represented Atlantic Refining. Survived by wife, two daughters Mrs William McNight of New York and Agnes, and sons Robert M Barnes of Pittsburg and Joseph at home. A Mason and Baptist, he was a reader with literary tastes. funeral from his home led by Rev A B Runyan and Rev J F Coax. burial in Blairsville.
Col James Miller a well known county figure died after a collision while driving a horse drawn cart near Grampian Clearfield county. The horse bolted and plunged over a bank fracturing Miller’s leg arm and causing fatal head injuries. He lingered until morning. His daughter Miss Janis Miller a Normal school student learned of the crash. Miller served as a colonel in the 105th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry during the war. Col John M Bruce Sel Keck and De Torrence of this place knew him personally. His wife was the sister of Mr John Farnsworth near Purchase Line.
