Missions Theme At Plamville Missionary Convention

Beating case leads to arrest over ill treated child
Constable Jacob Wettling arrested Henry Ray and Phoebe Clowes on a charge of ill treating seven year old Peodence Phillips. The child, living at the Ray farmhouse, showed back wounds from whipping last Friday. The case was brought before Humane Agent and a hearing will be scheduled.

June Court Ends With Verdicts and Settlements
The June term closed with several verdicts and settlements in the Salisburg Bank case. In E. W. Smith v First National Bank of burg and A. H. Beatty, the jury returned a verdict for the sale of A. H. Beatty, finding no violation of bankrupt law, and awarded the plaintiff $1,081.76. Morria Batts & Co. v G. W. McHenry et al. settled with each party bearing its own witnesses and half the costs. Donaldson v Newton and H. J. Clark settled, Hans Olson v Stadden & McHugh involved drilling contract, verdict for plaintiff $483. Court adjourned to July 7, likely the last sitting before lawyer vacation. RECENT DEATHS: Mrs. Sarah Arthur, widow of Philip Arthur, died Thursday at 3 p.m. in Pine Flats after ill health. born Sept 24, 1921, in New York City, lived in Pine Flats since 1852. Survived by daughters Mrs. Sarah Turner, Mrs. Mary Separate, Mrs. Rachel Sides, and brother Ray of New York City. Funeral at family plot near Pine Flats. Mrs. Bleming noted as deceased’s sister.
