Wate Township Man Celebrates 98th Birthday
A long lived resident of Wate Township, Johann Wohler born in 1813 in Germany, observed his 98th birthday at home with wife Flora Armstrong Wohlér and family. Immigrating in 1833, he traveled to America by ship in 49 days, later returning to visit Germany. The couple, long married since 1862 and parents of 12 children, now reside on a farm with their son Charles and wife, cared for in later years by family.

Two brothers injured by fall of mine roof at Clymer
Will Harper age 30 and his brother Jackie 18 were badly hurt in a Russell Coal Company mine at Clymer on Saturday morning. They had left their rooms for the main heading when a cave in struck them. Jackie suffered a deep head gash and severe bruises while Will also was badly bruised. A foreign miner injured in the same incident.

Livestock Perish in Flames at Rayne Farm Barn
Twenty-seven head of livestock burned in a noon Wednesday fire that destroyed the N. B. Short farm barn at Rayne township. Loss estimated over 35000 with 1000 building and 1000 contents insurance. Only a horse and a two year old colt were saved. six cows, three calves, 12 cattle heads, and two colts perished. Also destroyed were 250 bushels oats, 100 wheat, 50 buckwheat, 35 rye, 123 tons hay, straw, fodder, eight wagons and farming gear. Sheep shed nearby burned. sheep were in pasture. Origin unknown, no prior fire in the building.

Indiana thief breaks in on Sunday morning
A man entered a Bilis home on Church street by a front window early Sunday, stealing about 20 dollars and 75 dollars in jewelry from Miss Margaret Bilis and a coat, then escaped through the same window. The thief fled town on the morning Buffalo Rochester and Pittsburg line. Police and a county detective found no clue. A separate break in on West Church street failed after the intruder disturbed a door panel. Dr. Gates’s office on Oakland avenue was entered and a medicine chest damaged though contents remained.
