Four-Year-Old Dies After Eating Poisonous Root
Michael Prato aged four of Aultman in this county pulled a root from his yard and ate it after his siblings attempted to take it away. He fell ill minutes later and died around 9 30pm despite urgent medical care. His parents Joseph and a prominent Italian merchant of Aultman grieved as doctors sought to identify the root variety. Funeral services were held at the family home with burial at St Bernard's cemetery.

Undertaker Harry Flickinger recounted a Sunday incident near Jamison in Westmoreland County. A foreigner tied a tin can with dynamite to a dog’s tail hoping the blast would kill the animal. The dog bolted, the dynamite exploded on the steps, but the dog escaped unharmed while the master fled.

Templeton of South Seventh Street, Civil War veteran in Barry White's 7th regiment, has three hardtack biscuits from the 1865 muster out in Washington. Progress office shown hardtack by Mr. Tenpieton, said to be as solid as stone yet edible with old army coffee. Robert Lowry of Rochester Mills brought a wartime hardtack home in 1865. later preserved by his wife and given to William Black of Punxsulawney.
