Three American citizens are under arrest as part of a wartime spying investigation. The FBI has detained them amid a widening espionage case, with more arrests anticipated though specifics on timing or locations are not disclosed.
FBI and British authorities linked a long espionage inquiry to the February London arrest of Dr. Klaus Fuchs, a top atomic scientist. The case involves several Americans including Dean Slack, Joseph Chiodo, and David Greenglas as they face wartime espionage charges and possible death penalties under bonds set at 100,000 each.
Albany dispatch reports Governor Dewey announces he will not run again and plans private law practice after December 31. The 74 year old Lt. Gov. Joe R. Hanley is favored for the state Republican nomination at Saratoga Springs convention September 6-7. Dewey declines to influence convention choices.
Latrobe Construction Company holds the contract to reconstr uct widen and relocate a 5.4 mile section of Route 22 from New Alexandria to west of Blairsville. Work may start June 26 with a 220 working day schedule. Project could finish this year if weather and operations cooperate. Traffic between Blairsville and New Alexandria to be detoured around start date.
Blairsville resident Anthony Rotella was acquitted by a county criminal court jury on charges of sale of a firearm by a retail dealer without a license and delivering a firearm to a person under 18. The county must pay prosecution costs as the weeklong court session adjourns with additional sentences planned for next Monday.
The 76th Imperial Council Session opens in Los Angeles with about 200000 Shriner nobles and families gathering across the city. Delegates arrive from San Francisco Montreal Miami and Madison while registration starts early. Shrine leaders address hosting duties and private transport is arranged amid a streetcar and bus strike.
Indiana Borough to appoint a new dog catcher with H H Compton of Brave Indiana expected to be sworn in next Monday. Burgess Warren P Kline will administer the oath. The appointment was made by the borough council property committee.

Ass't. Co. Agent Charles A. Koester of Allegheny County assumed duties yesterday in Indiana County, replacing W. H. Folwell who resigned to return to the home farm. Koester, 30, married with two children, graduated from Penn State in Animal Husbandry and served four years in the military, including two and a half years in the European Theater as a First Lieutenant in the Signal Corps.
Indiana County unveils Palace Gardens Drive-In on Leech Farm Route 119. The outdoor venue seats about 600 cars, with a central snack bar, and will offer Thursday night showings free to the public. Nearby air disaster reports note 84 deaths in two Persian Gulf crashes with 66 bodies recovered and 18 missing.
Two year old Randall Winston Zimmerman died in New Wilmington Pennsylvania when his foot slipped while climbing a gate, neck wedged in the gate’s sections. The mother found him dead minutes later in the kitchen.

MEADVILLE Pa June 17 Three men pleaded guilty to stealing 405 chickens on arraignment before Justice of the Peace Domonick Lemme The defendants are George Markwell 41 East Fallfield Township Pierce Cogswell 35 and Elwood Cogswell 24 both of Ashtabula Ohio State Police said the thefts occurred at five farms along the Crawford Mercer County lines over four months.

New York June 17 reports FBI charged Army veteran David Greenglass with espionage for relaying atomic bomb secrets from Los Alamos to a Soviet spy ring that included Klaus Fuchs. The 33 year old Manhattan resident, once a machinist, worked on the bomb at Los Alamos and claimed he aided spies to protest U.S. handling of atomic information. Also tied to Harry Gold and Alfred Slack, authorities warn more arrests may follow.
Wives of striking milk truck drivers plan talks with industry leaders as negotiations resume in Pittsburgh amid a nine day strike that has halted all but emergency milk deliveries in the area. An industry official noted ongoing talks with AFL Milk and Ice Cream Driver Salesmen and Dairy Employes Local 205, while another session aims to bridge disagreements between both sides.
Samuel W. Jacobs of Greensburg High School was named chairman of the fourth annual Central Western District Workshop at Indiana State Teachers College. Paul Maxwell was elected vice chairman for 1951, replacing Jacobs in that role. Other officers reelected include John E.
