In Tamaqua on June 14 two bodies were found in a field with a third man dying nearby. State police reported locating the trio about 200 feet from a highway three miles north of Tamaqua, with blood evidence suggesting they were dumped from a car. The unidentified man was to undergo autopsy. the first victim was shot twice in the neck.
Franklin Pierce McCall, 21, faces murder and kidnapping charges in the death of James Bailey Cash Jr. in Miami. Federal agents say he confessed and expressed a wish for the electric chair rather than life imprisonment. Guard Clyde Tolson reports McCall has cracked under the strain as the grand jury sits, and questions why he took the 18 month old child from Princeton on the night of May 28.
Marion Center obituary notes Rufus Work, Ohia. Mark Hopkins of Washington and Mrs. Mary Steele of Marion Center survive along with two sisters in law Mrs. Mabel Hopkins of Indi ana and Mrs. Amanda Hopkins of Marion Center. Friends will be received in the Steele home after 3 p.m. today. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday led by Rev. Hush Given, D.D. The body will be taken to Fort Morgan, Colorado for additional services and interment Saturday.
