Plane wrecked in Yosemite found near Buena Vista Park

Bread deliveries resume in southwestern Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh June 14. Bread deliveries returned to normal in southwestern Pennsylvania after a 14 day strike that closed 30 major bakeries and left 3,800 workers idle. Fourteen hundred AFL union drivers voted to accept a compromise granting seniority rights but denying demands for a closed shop and union labels on bread wrappers. Wages were not an issue.

Rivers Rise But No Flood In Western Pennsylvania

Government weather observers said little chance of floods after a violent rain and electrical storm swept western Pennsylvania. The Youghlegheny rose slowly while the Ohio at the confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny held at 16.0 feet, about eight feet below flood level. The Weather Bureau logged 3.25 inches of rain in 48 hours at Greensburg, nearly an inch in Pittsburgh, and 2.87 inches at Lake Lynn near Port Marion on Friday to Sunday. An excursion boat carrying 1400 passengers rode the Ohio to shore near Pittsburgh before resuming its voyage after the storm. Several injuries were reported from rain and slick highways. Twenty-five farming near Greensburg, one man severely burned shoveling water into a road ditch.

WPA official sentenced in six month term for election fraud

Judge W Heber Dithrich ordered John Macko a Homestead WPA foreman to six months in the workhouse a $100 fine and four year disfranchisement for election fraud during the September primaries. Five election board members were also sentenced all convicted of fraud in Pittsburgh.

New York June 13 Walter P Chrysler Sr automobile magnate is described as in satisfactory condition after a circulatory attack. Dr Arthur F Chase spokesman said Chrysler is very sick but progressing well while recuperating at Leroy Sanatorium after being moved from his Long Island home May 27.

Ditch Blasting Demonstration At Virginia Farms

A ditch blasting demonstration will be held at Virginia Farms near Livermore on Thursday June 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. About 2500 feet of open ditch will be blasted with high test dynamite. County Agent Warner recommends attending to learn blasting for open ditches where covered drains are not advisable.

Hollywood June 13 Bing Crosby wins the first annual motion picture golf tournament with an icehole score of 72 to capture the title from rivals. Richard Arlen finishes second with 73 in a close finish at the event announcers called a novelty outing.

Eastern Star Convention Opens in Altoona With 9000 Attendees

The 4th annual Grand Chapter convention of the Order of the Eastern Star in Pennsylvania drew about 9,000 lodge members from across the state to Altoona. Activities began with executive board and committee meetings as the convention opens formally tonight at the Jewish Mosque.

A mass of accidental deaths is reported near Franklin with fifteen deaths from drowning and a fatal car crash.
