Lightning Strikes Anthony Home During Storm

A severe storm strikes the Misses Anthony home at 84 South Tenth Street tearing part of the slate roof and starting an attic fire. Neighbors rushing from a funeral formed a bucket brigade to extinguish the blaze before the fire department arrived. An incorrect location report sent engines to the far end of town while losses are being adjusted.

Bloodshed in Erie milk war sparks warrants and arrests

Erie, June 8. Warrants for 40 farmers were served after two melees in the Erie County milk war left bloodshed. Charles Brown of Hill Mill Dairy was released on 750 bond after shooting Waterford farmer L H Hewitt. Hill Mill driver Charles Plymier was freed on bond for striking a farmer. Hewitt, shot in the leg, has disappeared as deputies seek him and an injunction against the Erie County Milk Producers Association. Deputy sheriffs guard milk trucks entering the city. District Attorney Mortimer I Graham says the milk war may be over.

Grand Jury Ends Labors After Three Day Session

The June grand jury finished a three day session discharging in the afternoon after inspecting county buildings and finding them in good condition. Eleven indictments and four not true bills were returned including a four count indictment against Vincent DiMino alias John Kaplan alias Vincent Domino alias James Dimino for unlawful use of a fictitious name in motor vehicle act and related offenses. DiMino held in county jail with arrest May 14 after patrolmen found a double dynamite bomb in his abandoned car behind Lauderbach Griest Co. in Water street. license plates issued to John Koplas of Arnold Westmoreland county. DiMino claimed his correct name but had been known as Koplas for 10 years. Indicted for manslaughter Herman Ricupero 19 of Indiana for involuntary manslaughter in a separate case. Milk Shippers to Meet in Indiana County Court House

Farmers Join In Cookport Meet

Six hundred people from the Commodore Farmers Cooperative and families attended the annual collaboration in Cockport Community Hall. President H W Miman led the session with Miss Sarah Fyock in charge of the literary program and L L Fyock presenting the purchasing report. The program featured songs, monologue, dialogue, and children’s reading, followed by County Agent Warner’s motion pictures. Ice cream and cake concluded the event, lauded as a valuable social and wholesale farming support effort.

Veterans Farm Plan Seeks RFC Aid In Western Pennsylvania

Reconstruction Finance Corp aid is sought to fund a movement that would take between 150 and 300 unemployed veterans and their families from relief lists. Western Pennsylvania Veterans Foundation proposes a 600 acre cooperative veteran farm in Indiana County to cover land, buildings for 50 families, equipment, and transport. Total need exceeds 71 000 dollars to support 126 families of six each year, aiming for self sufficiency by cooperative farming. Ex service men from 31 counties will be recruited, with allocations listed for Allegheny to Westmoreland counties and others.

Local barber injured in fall at shop

William OHara a North Sixth street barber slipped on hair in a Deposit bank building shop yesterday afternoon and was thrown to the cement floor. He suffered a fractured shoulder blade and a slight skull fracture. His condition this morning was satisfactory and the shop will reopen tomorrow with a competent operator.
